Just to let you all know...I contacted Dj Chief by email and purchased a PCD25 card reader for my 3000....Chief packaged and shipped it to New York and I had it forwarded to Jamaica...

Installed it in my Bruce Forat modified 3000 - Which really means that the scsi conversion was already done by Bruce for the zip drive which he installed, but I had to change the power connector (the zip uses a floppy drive power connector, the PCD25 uses a the legacy scsi power connector).

1,2,3...Viola! Works like a charm! The same issue with the formatting exists i.e. 32 meg partitions, so your compact flash card must be multi partioned just the same as a zip drive...

I posted an entire "how to" in this thread

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php ... highlight=

But Dj Chief delivered..and the card reader works like a charm....Goodbye zip disks....Hello Compact flash....

As a matter of fact, with the right pcmcia adapter, I don't see why smart media, memory stick, MMC, SD shouldn't work as well...I'll find out soon enough..

I'm a happy camper....Dj Chief, bless up!!!

Well if you check out http://www.mpc3000.com/mpc3kdrive.htm , it describes the scsi conversion needed.....I have a friend who builds PC's for a living, so he helped me with the power connector conversion.

If I hadn't already had the scsi conversion done by forat, I would have to have depended on him to do the work.......

So if you're not a computer savvy kinda guy, you should probably get someone how fixes/builds PC's and is familair with scsi/connectors/cabling/ etc.etc....And also who has old scsi ribbon cables sitting around.. :-)

I'm open to correction, but I'm guessing it woild be a similar process to this:
http://www.midicase.com/s2000/index.htm

Altenatively, you could look for an external case/housing to mount the card reader in......Dj Chief actually recommended a site that sells them, but I can't remember right now.....Then you wouldn't have to muck about in your machine, just plug and play...

thanks fantom27

i got someone who should be able to do this for me, but i best pass all this info on to him to have a look at first to make sure he's cool with it. if he thinks its gonna be a problem then i may look at that external housing.

he'll be putting in memory, new pads, buttons, data encoder, slider and a fresh backlight also. :)

Nice....complete refurbishing.....Wish you luck with it all, you'll be a kid at Christmas when you're finished..

I tell you, I bought mine from an equipment rental company that was getting rid of inventory......You would've cried when you saw it...Sides falling off, no backlight, buttons broken...If you put your cell phone near it, a strange buzz would emit from the outputs.....It had a foot in the grave..

But fortunately;
1) Big up to Bruce Forat...amazing technician and a really cool guy.
2) Big up to Dj Chief....Gave me a lifeline when I least expected it.
3) Big up to Rohan Mansell....Seen his screenshots and can't wait for the upgrade...
4) Big up to mpc-forums.....Nuff said!!!!

I got the last one, and completely over my budget due to the US dollar being way weak compared to the Euro (.75 to 1)

at any rate still stoked to future proof the 60

much respect to DJ Chief

shipped the cardreader from Amsterdam (I won't tell you what else)

got it and the guy from SCSIforsamplers.com hooked me up with the rest, copped a 1gig CF card at Officemax yesterday for 25 and now I have three ways to save, floppies, zip and CF.

it does format faster, real dope, stoked that I'll never lose the way with my 60/3000 and technology

waiting for that new OS though!
