MPC 60 + Akai S2000

Is anyone familiar with this setup and if so what are the pros and cons? I found an AKAI S2000 for $125, should I cop it or not?

doesn't sound like a bad idea... good technology in the s2000 but the s950 has the dirty 12 bit sound and some nasty filters... I don't know much about the s2000's filters... does it have the graphic waveform editing like the mpc2000 and XL?

the s1000 introduced waveform editing IIRC, so the s2000 has it for sure.

I used to have a S2000. It does not have waveform display editing. You have to edit by ear. It has one simple low-pass filter. It's ok, but the OS wasn't designed very well, and you have to scroll through sh!t loads of screens to get to the thing you want to adjust, and then scroll back again....all on a tiny little screen.

If you want that type of sampler, step up to the S3000xl. It's has similar capabilities to the S2000, but it has waveform editing, and the OS is set up WAY better. Also, the multi-output board is stock. It's way more user friendly and faster to get around to the different functions.

Where can I find the OS other than the Akai website. For some reason I can't get it to load onto a floppy

do you still need the boot floppy . I have the most recent OS and will mail you out one if you need it. Also have the mpc60 s2000 combination..... get millenium http://www.rpgfan.demon.co.uk/y2k.htm it works amazing !!! <p>this sampler is a large pain in the ass if you only use the small LCD to work with. Mesa and Millenium are software for the PC and Mac that allow you to access all the functions on the s2000 through your computer ( so easy this way )...

Joel, thanks man. I finally got a good download of the OS from the Akai Site. ( had to use Windows ME or earlier to install the OS) Then I found out that the S2000 itself was bad, probably just the disk drive but I returned it to the Guitar Center anyway. Thanks again, I think I will invest in the 3000XL or one with the wav display if I decide to get another one.
