MPC-3000: HEADPHONE TONE?

Hi all,
I just got a used 3000 and hear a constant upper-mid pitched "tone" that's audible through the headphone connection only. It's not hooked up to a power conditioner/surge protector. Any ideas?

Is your headphonejack OK? If tip or ring are damaged it can cause hum.
Also try using another headphone. If it is still heard while in play mode then contact some technician.

I noticed this last night. I disconnected my zip drive for the first time and noticed loud hum thru the headphones. The noise is loud even with the volume knob turned all the way down, but indi + stereo outs are quiet. I tried other headphones with same noise. It only does this when nothing is plugged in the scsi port. With zip drive plugged in I can still hear faint hum only thru the phone output.

yeah i have that problem too occasionaly, but when i jiggle my scsi zip drive cord it goes away

Turn the backlight off ( depress the display contrast knob ) and this tone may go away.

when I use my headphones all I hear is the zip drive, well most of what I hear. wonder if the moving of the wire would help? its internalso that wouldget annoying opening it up every time.

I had this too. It wouldnt go away at all untill i jiggled the headphone jack a little. Then it would come back short after..

An other thing i noticed is that a second sound like a ringing starts coming up once i press play. I hardly use the headphones out, so i never really cared. Perhaps there still is some strange timeclock signal routed to the headphone outs by the previous user? Anybody got a clue?

I can still hear faint noise thru headphones with the scsi connected. I dont know if my ears are playing tricks on me, but the sample playback sounds dirtier too?

mine does this too

so theres NO way to get rid of that tone?

Something is obviously fried inside. With scsi device connected, loud tone gets reduced to 'hum'. It's tolerable, but noticeable nonetheless. I just stopped using the headphone out altogether. I still want to get it fixed tho

Mine does it as well, you can hear scsi transfer , the tone and when you start a seq it has another tone, annoying !!!!

One of the positive reasons of dealing with old units::: always having something to work on. I dig it.
