mpc3000 zip disk formating

I've recently bought a external scsi 250 zip drive to use with my new mpc3000. I bought some second hand used 100MB zip disks too. First I was having problems to get the mpc to format 100MB zip disks. There was communication between the mpc and the external (i could notice by the sound), but mpc was unable to detect the drive neither format the disks. Later I tried a 250MB disk and the mpc was finally able to format it, and it worked fine. What about the 100MB zip disks? Why is the mpc/drive unable to format them?

I tried to format the 100MB with mpceditor and now the mpc is able to recognize them, write to them and read from them, but still not able to format them.. Any ideas?
