Option to now "Hybrid Partition" a SCSI hard disk. Hybrid partitions are safe cross platform types that can be seen by computers and the MPC3000 allowing computer access to all disk data for the purpose of rapid file transfer and sound library development.

Certain types of MAGNETO OPTICAL drives work with the MPC3000 already.

There is another user on this list that uses such MAGNETO OPTICAL drives with his MPC3000.

Maybe he could post here to confirm which model.

I have a fujitsu drive (640meg) I can format it with the mpc3000 but it only format about 150meg on a 640 disk.
Also when I save data on it, it can be corrupted.
Can you send me your os on floppy so that I can test it?

right now i use 3.16 os

Hey Rohan, I noticed you need to send the MPC serial number and also say if its LE or not.

I might be swapping my classic for an LE soon, so I'd like to know if I'll be safe ordering chips now or if its better to wait untill im sure im gonna settle for one machine.

This sounds like you have a suspect Magneto Optical drive.

The fault you're describing is very similar to what another user exprienced a while back.

There is NO floppy version of Vailixi 3.50 ...

The serial number is part of the ID and manufacture process.

In fact my optical drive is working perfectly with my emu E5000, so I think that's the MPC that is incompatible with it.
Did you rewrite all the scsi protocol of the system? if so there could be chances that the MPC now support optical drive, if so I'll buy with no hesitation your os

Model ? Firmware ? Cart Type and Size ? LIMDOW or one of the other types ?

The MPC3000 when HARDWARE LOW LEVEL formatting a drive issues a "SCSI FORMAT UNIT" command. ( the same as any other device that HARDWARE LOW LEVEL formats a disk )

In OS 3.16 as you're running this is the <SLOW> format command.

At this point it is important to note that "the drive" and not the MPC3000 determines the final size to be reported back to the MPC3000 for the following partitioning phase.

A re-write of the SCSI protocol handler does not affect the process of HARDWARE LOW LEVEL formatting as this is simply a single SCSI command.

IE: "Hey hard drive take this command and process it"

What happens when you <SLOW> format your Magneto Optical cart ?

PS: The protocol rewrite was to implement user switchable MULTI SECTOR or SINGLE SECTOR transfer mode per SCSI command.

Or in English, to allow devices that didn't perform save and load functions correctly when connected to the MPC3000, to do so.

EG The Fortezza compatible SPYRUS/MPL RD300 series, some of the non PCD-25 based Microtech models and so on.
