Computer to sample, MPC 60II to sequence

The Floppy drive on my MPC 60II is shot so I want to use my computer as a sampler and the mpc 60ii to trigger the samples.

I've tried various programs: fruity loops, kontact etc.. and I can't get them to recognize the MPC midi signal.

I'm very new to this so I was hoping that somebody could post a step by step guide to makeing this happen. (Recommended softwear?)

That's the most backwards setup I've ever heard of. Get a new floppy drive or some external something-or-other. Zip drive, compact flash, etc.

Or at least sell the 60 to someone who could use it and get something like the ASQ10

all of those programs you mentioned will recognize the MPC. you just have to change the settings in the MPC AND the SW, to trigger the notes in those programs.

the problem you will run into is you wont be able to save your MPC sequences. (no floppy drive) so youre better off buying a new drive. or jsut using the 60 as a midi controller.

what you can do is setup your MPC's pads in chromatic order, then trigger you MIDI software's sounds that way. I do the same thing when I wanna trigger sounds in Reason, usin the MPC.

Anybody ever have any problems with latency while sequencing a softsampler with their 60 ? I'm thinking about trying it out with a MOTU FastLane midi interface, think that'd be quick enough ? Obviously a better (more expensive ) card would have a better chance, but I'd love to save the green..

^ no, no latency issues.. not sure, but i think it will depend on your audio interface, its connections and drivers..

my audio interface holds up pretty well on a firewire connection..
