whats this board?

i opened up my 3000 yesterday to clean the pads. and i noticed this board attached to the bottom right hand corner.

the picture above doesnt include this board, u can just see a scsi ribbon cable.

It´s the 2Mb memorycard that come from factory, remove it when you upgrade to 32Mb.

nice one. how do i display the amount of ram installed?

30 PIN SIMMS.

An example with "Hitachi Branded chips on a MEMORY-X K2000/MPC3000 32 megabyte upgrade kit that was branded TRANSCEND" ......

2 x sticks, 8 chips per stick.

8 on a stick would be 16 megabyte deep ( 1 chip for
each bit, 8 chips = a byte, each chip being 16
megabits, 8 being a toal of 16 megabytes )

2 x stick would equal "32 megabyte" ...

If one of the sticks or chips is bad in the pair or if any of
them are wired incorrectly then things could go wild and/or the memory size could report incorrectly.

Failure of the RAM controller PLD next to the SIMM slots will also cause incorrect read/write/detect of any installed SIMMS. ( not common but does happen every now and then )

Akai EXM or MUTEC memory expansion board should be removed in machines upgraded to 32 megabytes via 30 PIN SIMMS.
