HI I'm new to the forum - just got my first MPC a week ago... needs a new backlight and the floppy was dead.
Just to report that today I replaced the drive with an external Amiga drive (just took it out of it's case). The only jumper it required was for drive 0. At first it didn't work and just span round and round when I inserted a disk and the MPC took ages to boot and reported no disk in the drive. I read on a newsgroup that the connections on the 34 pin plug are reversed (??) so I plugged the 34 pin upside down with bump facing upwards instead of downwards.... The MPC reads writes formats and copies no problems! RESULT!
These drives are very cheap on eBay and I would imagine that the external ones have had less hard lives than the internal ones in Amigas as they were essentially a second drive.
