SMPTE

How do i know if i have smpte? can i receive smpte? can i send smpte? do both these features require the smpte option?
can i sync in and out at the same time?

not sure about the 3000, but I think it comes standard on it as it does on the 60.

The 60 and probably the 3000 can't do shit while it writes smpte, it is used to stripe a tape with the time code ( like a reel to real multi track tape, not your cassette) and then you transmit that track to the MPC and your video device and it is slaved to the tape and all in sync.

You can use it with you're computer, but if you aren't doing video scoring it is pretty useless because the tapes always have some slippage.

You could also stripe an audio track in your computer to sync your MPC, but then you loose a computer output and it is more of a pain to set up than Midi.

i didnt buy the option but i think my mpc has it...it was a factory model so i guess they messed up...last time i recorded to tape i used fsk24 which kept everything in track but wasnt that tight....looks like i am gonna get rid of soft synths and keep everything outboard with my MPC...peace

I think SMPTE is supposed to be better than FSK. Not sure tho.

And what do you mean about getting rid of softsynths?

From what I understand the MPC3000 can track to SMPTE without the SMTPE option, but needs the option to generate SMTPE code.

The MPC3000LE models had SMPTE as standard. The former beige models were an option, but I have yet to see one without SMPTE.

SMPTE is much better than FSK. FSK has about the same resolution as midi clock.

Is there any way to tell if my 3000 has the I-0055 SMPTE chip? I just tried to sync it to my 388 and it wont sync from the tape.
