I've read so many posts in this forum regarding the mpc3000 but can't find my answer.

I got a MPC 1000 for a few months now but I really consider getting a 3000.

But I'm not sure if I should get just a Akai s900 along with my 1000 or go with the 3000.
Is there a big difference between a 1000 + s900 and a 3000 by itself.

What I'm looking for is that particular sound or grain or call it what you want that you can't find in the 1000.

Or is there any other piece of gear that you would recomend?

Thank you very much.

I'd complement the 1000 with a s950 if you're looking for the akai 12 bit sound.

That is what I was thinking about, but is there anything that the mpc 3000 will bring vs the 1000 + s900

The thing that makes me hesitate is the 32 mb memory from the 3000, that is the only thing that makes me consider keepin the 1000.
Because when I make beats, I record all my synths in the audio in and record them in my sequence as waves and it takes a lot of memory....

But if the sound is still better with the 3000 I don't care about the memory.

There are a lot of people on the board that can answer your question better than me but I'm still gonna.

Seems to me you're looking for that 12 bit sound (I could be wrong with this). The 3000 is 16 bit machine. So if you're really after the gritty 12 bit sound, I'd go for a s950.

Yeah I would love the 12 bit sound but the mpc 60 or sp1200 is way too low in memory so I think the 3000 would be better for me, even if it's 16 sound is still better than the 1000 by itself.

The 3000 has a real nice sound to it and the 32MB. I got an xl and I have enough with the 32MB.

The 60 and s950 have that 12bit sound but you're limited in memory.

Either way it's all a matter of what you want and need. s950s can be had pretty cheap in comparison to a 60 or 3000. You can always try to find a good deal on a s950 and if you don't like it because it's too limited, you can sell it with a profit.

I read that the s900 has a better sound than the s950, am I wrong?

There not really that much different in terms of sound but the machine itself has different features. I think the S900 is not expandable beyond 750kb. You used to be able to get a software upgrade for the S900 that would give a lot of the S950 features.

Get a S-3000 or S-3200 to add to your 1k.
The thing about the 3k is it has a very comfortable workflow.
The 60/3k gave dedicated buttons, a large areas to get around on and a workflow that made sense.
The 2k/2k xl started the shift button thing with the open window and a similar workflow.
The 4k gave you both the dedicated buttons and the open window plus the large display.
The 1k/2500 have the shif to PAD function, a smaller area and a workflow that is kinda tossed around but you can get used to it.
My point I am gettin g at is the 3k was more than just it's sonic imprint it was the evolution of all the stuff they learned from the 60 and layed out in a way that's very condusive to working.
If you are use to the 1k the 3k might not work for you depending on your realistic expectations.
Add to the 1k and if that doesn't work then try the 3k, at least that way you will be more open to learning it since you will already know the 1k + _ _ _ didn't work for you.

yo i went from a 1k to a 3k got a great deal on it and copped it matter fact i still have my 1k havent turned it on since i got the 3k now looking to sell it for a audio interface but yeah i had to change my way of making beats almost completely around but you get the hang of it Wink

also sound is way diffrent way fatter on the mpc 3k i know im not crazy

Well the 900 is a bad choice because it has limited memory and doesn't have the TC function.
That's why people typically say find a 950, but the 900 and 950 sound the same.
The 3000 or 3200 is the sound of the MPC3k and are pretty feature rich units that will allow you to do a lot.
The sound of the 900/950 is the MPC60 sound with additional features.

Yes "I nees a mpc" I don't think you're crazy, because I already heard a mpc 3000, it was warmer, and this is what I want (never heard a 60 but it should be even better).

I reallt dont know if I should cop a 3000 first and if I dont like it get a 1000 + a sampler...

For example the sound of a 1000 + a s 3000 makes the exact sound as a 3000 by itself?

sorry to jack the thread but can the mpc3k read s3000xl files or just the older s3000?

and has the standard s3000 got wave form editing like the s3000xl?

The S3000 and S3000XL use the same file system.

The MPC3000 can mount and read S1000/S3000 formatted media. ( floppies, hard disks and CD-ROMS )

Where reading these disks is concerned; the MPC3000 reads and imports sample data only.

In my case I use a S3200 and S3200XL. ( the 3000/3000XL big brothers ).

Disks/CD-ROM's created with either can be read by the MPC3000.
