Anybody know how to use a standard midi file (format 1) with ProTools on MacOSX ?
I saved one of my MPC sequences as a standard midi file, then went into ProTools and did an "Import Midi To Track". I went to the edit screen of ProTools and saw all of the midi data laid out on the grid. But when I press play on the digi002, I get no sound.

I know I need to route the midi data to some audio tracks, but it's been a while since I played with MIDI tracks in ProTools. What I'm trying to do is get ProTools to trigger the MPC using the MIDI file I loaded.

Peace.

You need to assign the MIDI channel output on ProTools to the MPC via what MIDI output you have connected to the MPC.

Hope this helps.

Thought I make it clearer for you again.

You need to assign the MIDI channel output on ProTools mixer to the MPC via the MIDI output on the back of your DIGI002 which you have connected to the MPC.

MIDI tracks on ProTools cannot trigger audio unless your using an instrument track.

If you get stuck get back to me or buy the ProTools training DVD. It really good and its what I recommend to my students.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I did that before I posted my question. I named the MIDI out 1 port, on the digi002, MPC3000. The input of the MIDI tracks are set to 'All'. When I go to select the output, I select 'MPC3000 port1', but then there are a 16 channels to select from. I select channel 1, which should correspond to 'track 1' on the MPC sequence. I do this for each of the MPC tracks.

When I hit play, I see the signal, but I don't get audio. The MPC uses analog input 1 on the digi002, so should I setup some audio tracks with the input set to 'Analog 1' to hear the audio ? Thanks for your help.

peace,
