Does the mpc 60 save midi notes from midi in??

I've been trying to mess with the straight midi part of the 60... and the manual doesnt have too much info on it.. and then again the midi menus dont have much either.. but maybe im just overlooking something..

I was wondering if I have a midi controller keyboard connected to the mpc's midi in, and a sound generator/something that accepts midi, connected to the mpc's midi out... that midi keyboard will controll the sound generator?? (just like they were connected together, but the mpc is in the middle of the two devices) and can i record the midi data of what notes i play and save them to a pad or sequence or something? so at this point there would be no sound "in" the mpc, just saved midi data...

I don't know about using the midi keyboard and having the MPC in the middle of things. I would assume you have to save all sounds.

well they would be no sounds in there ... hmm but the mpc will know that the midi keyboard is playing notes, like c, c#, etc... since you can set up the mpc to play the pads like that....in chromatic order...

yea.. but it would be hard to play with since you can only use 16 notes at once.. just about 1 octave a lil bit more... i like to do fancy keyboard runs or octave jumps... haha and even playing chords would be awkward... i dont know. im gonna mess with it when i get home.. ideally im looking for one pad to trigger numerous midi notes (data) with one hit.. which i recorded/played with the midi controller keyboard... thats where im trying to get... and i think only the more advanced mpcs can do that maybe...

ok i just figured it out if anyone is interested, or if everyone already knows this, dont mind me im just an idtiot... ha

I plugged a midi controller (midi out) to MPC's Midi In (I)
Then plugged sound device (in this case just another keyboard to test ) midi in to MPC's midi out (A)

then go to midi option 2
highlight the first area "ACTIVE TRACK ....."
and change the channel you want to have all the msgs sent on, I put it on midi channel 1

then all you do is go to main screen, make sure its set to DRUM, and on the bottom left where it says channel, just set it to 1 (or whatever channel you made it)

now you should be able to play your midi controller and control any device hooked up to the MPC through midi... then you can function normally and setup record by playing the midi controller, and it records the data for you...

and im checking right now if you can do the mpc normally on top of this where there are still sounds triggered with the pads, which seems like its no problem since you can just switch it to track 2 and have your samples there and rip it up. and when you hit play it should play the samples through the mpc audio outs, and the triggered sound generator should be playing with it.
