Do you think the MPC60 sounds "cold"?

Just found it funny that somebody told me this. I sampled a well known break with my laptop, the 60, and the xl. Somebody used the word "cold" on commenting on the samples. So I sent him some other examples to which he replied "cold"...

You'll hear that alot about digital audio sounding 'cold' or 'sterile' as opposed to the warm analog sound of solid state or tube gear. Engineers usually try to 'warm' things up by recording/mixing analog or going thru analog processors or whatever. Me personally, with my ears, I don't hear much of a difference these days.

What has that got to do with this? I sampled the loop with my laptop and with my mpc's (than from mpc -> laptop of course otherwise I couldn't send it by email).

Will post the loops tonight since I'm at work now and don't have them with me.

I thought you meant you sampled from pc ( mp3 , wav ) instead of sampling from vinyl.

It's all about what you sample and how you sample it as i see it, you have to make sh*t sound good.

Gotta say that the record is not in the best condition so this is probably not the best example. It's just sampled with sl1210 with m44-7, vestax07, laptop and mpc60. Didn't eq anything before sampling, just wanted to compare.

it sounds kinda compressed, im not sure if the 60 does that, from a sample clip Dor had a while back comparing the 2500 to the 60 didnt sound anything like that. sounds really horrible!

i think with the 60 thier is an option for compression, if you want to save space, might be whats wrong, but other than that im not sure.....
