the mpc 60 and mpc 500

is a workflow of any sort possible with these two mpc's. i travel a lot and need the 500 for that reason. but i met this dude in thailand who had the 60 and i got a chance to play around with it... really loved the sound and feel of it. i know both machines use different media (cf cards vs floppy/zip), sample at different bit rates, etc... just wondering if anyone out there is using the 60 with one of the newer mpc's... if its possible in some way to use both machines for the same tracks, move media/samples between the two, have them work with one another in some capacity... or would you simply be using each machine independently? hope that makes sense.

I'd say independently, unless you would sample on the 60, start there and send it to the 500 by way of sampling again...giving you a better sound...but that's a lot of work

that's what i had in mind... sampling/chopping samples on the 60, then sequencing them on the 500... but yeah, i would still be more than okay using them independently...

no problem, without getting flamed I'd say the 500 looks closest in workflow to the 60 than any of the other newer MPCs

at least as far chopping goes, right? (doing it by ear instead of waveforms) had the same thought go through my head...

I dunno, I just mean it has no graphical editing, only one slider and it can only be assigned to one pad at a time...and some other things maybe haha

thats pretty much what i do with my s950 and mpc 1000. ill just sample with the s950 add filters then sample to the 1000... It works good... if i want my samples to have a gloss to them. if you have a laptop you might want to look into akai to wav. programs. there out there

yea the s950 is cheaper than an mpc 60 too so ull save money instead of buying 60 and i heard they get preety much the same sound

Agree, I personally think the s950 sounds better than the 60 (i have both). you have more high frequency (which you can take off sampling at lower khz) and there is filtering...

so as far as sampling/resampling goes, the 950 is cool.

Me and my buddy made our first beat on his S950 together with his 1200 last night, and that sampler deserves all the hype it can get. It lived up to my high expectations on bot sound and ease of use. After a short while we had a dope beat.

In your case I'd say either use the 60 alone or save money and use the S950 with your 500.

But I don't really understand why people are so sceptic about using old gear. Its just as good as any new gear, if not even better. And with multiple outs you can mix the tracs with modern tools.

All I ever use is old gear (except for my laptop, which is from work actually)...It's great, it sounds great, doesn't cost too much these days and keeps it's value really well...
