s6000 and mpd16?

Hey guys, I have a quick non 60/3000 related question.

I read that the z4/z8s usb would power an mpd16 (although it would still need to be connected via midi). Any clue if that works with an s6000?

I make it a point not to play live with any device that has a wallwart (including a laptop).

the usb function on the 6000 is only for transfering files between pc and sampler... you will have to use midi instead of usb to trigger samples, which will make the wallwart necessary...

I understand that the USB is only for transfering files to and from the pc. What I'm wondering is if the USB can power the mpd16. I know that I'll still have to use midi.

The z4/z8 has two seperate USB ports, one can only be used as a slave. I'm guessing no, just wondering if anybody knew for sure.

dont know for sure but i sincerely doubt it... both the 6000 and the pc wouldnt need power via usb...

I think you're right, the s6000 is a slave anyway. To quote Tina Marie, it gets the "Square Biz" aka the b***h end of the USB cable.

Mate, I don't know if this helps you at all, but I have an S1000, and I can confirm that if I connect a midi cable from the MPD-16 to the S1000 and also a USB cable from the MPD to my computer, the MPD draws power from the USB cable and I can trigger sounds from the S1000 on the MPD pads.

Thanks the help! That works as I imagine it would. But I don't think the usb on the s6000 is going to work the same way. It's a slave (receiving end) and probably not gonna produce the juice.

That IS useful if you are sequencing your s1000 with a computer anyway though.

Yeah I only ever tried this the once just to see if it would work, I ended up selling my MPD 16 because I never used it (turns out using an MPC as a trigger produces a lot less latency).
So seeing as it won't work for your S6000, I would recommend getting the cheapest MPC you can find (a 2000 would probably fit the bill nicely) and using that to trigger and sequence sounds from your 6000.
