Man I had an SP-1200 for a few years and sold it for $1400 plus (included the original disks with the machine) almost two yrs ago. I only used it for drums, and never really used it for chopping samples for my beats, but I did experiment with it and came up with exact replicas of Jay-Z's Who You Wit, and Pete Rock & CL's Straighten It Out. Those two beats took about 10 minutes to make with the SP.
I never knew what people meant by "gritty" sound until I got my 3000 and had them hooked up at the same time and compared the two. The 3000 was so clean sounding, and I saw what people meant by "gritty crunchy 8-bit sound". Once I got my 3000 and enjoyed it more, the SP was just neglected and collecting dust so it had to go.
