MPC 60 to control and sequence software vst's

Is anyone using the MPC 60 solely to sequence software vst's?

I plan on using the MPC 60 to sequence vst's in Ableton Live.

Specifically, this is what I am planning to do: use the MPC60 as my main midi sequencer and use my computer as a sound module, sampler, and mixing station.

So i plan on initially sequencing and recording the midi data with the MPC 60 and then when I find I like what I've recorded, I will turn off Live's quantize functions and sync Live to the MPC 60 over MIDI clock. I will then arm the tracks (with their midi channels corresponding to each track's channels on the 60) to record in Live. Then I will have visual representation of the MPC's midi recording in Live (with the 60's groove and swing) so I can further edit the midi data if necessary.

I just want to clarify; can the 60 send MMC messages?

Do any of you more experienced users, and more importantly, users who use the 60 to sequence software vst's foresee any problems with my plan?

Sorry I think I may have made the explanation to wordy and drawn out.

I would basically use Live as a big rack of vst samplers, vst synths and effects. I would use the MPC to sequence the vst's. So I would come up with a sequence for each vst (of course the midi channel settings on the mpc for each track would correspond with that of each vsts' track input in Live).

That way when I like what I've recorded I can just arm each track I want to record and track the midi data into live with Live's quantize set to off). So I end up with a visual representation of the MPC's sequence data in Live (with the MPC's feel, swing, and groove). That way I can even further edit those midi parts with the mouse or by implementing some of Live's swing and quantize parameters when necessary.

If anyone has tried this idea, I would like to know if they experienced any drift between Live and the MPC sequencer when they are sync'd over midi clock (with MPC as the master).

Or if there are any other issues others have experienced while working this way?

no problem at all...

do the same thing with my mpc2500/1000

and next with my hopefully soon getting mpc60....


i also made scale programms (assign the pads to the correct midi notes of a scale - each prg has its own scale) and sequence vstis etc...

all possible with midiclock (didnt try mmc, but must also work)
