3k scsi stopped working

Hey people, id like to fix my scsi on the 3k, it hasnt worked for a while now

My 3k went wonky a while back, with some dead buttons etc... i got it fixed, but my 3k doesnt seem to read the zip drive anymore...

anyone have any ideas what i could do ?
i dunno if its the zip drive, or my mpc...

first try to reformat, make scsi disk active, different zip disks, change from 5 to 6 on the back of the zip, etc.

Definitely!

Also try removing the SCSI cable and blowing some compressed air into the SCSI connector on the rear of the machine. I had a 3000 that was in a road case for a minute, I hooked it up, the Zip wasn't being recognized so I tried this with success. My theory was that microdust was preventing a good connection.

And another non-scientific trick that has worked for me in the past is simply REVERSING the SCSI cable (taking the end that was in the 3K, and attaching that to the drive and vice-versa). This has also worked for me on firewire cables on other devices. It should be filed under the "Tried everything and it didn't work so I'll try this or else I gotta buy a new one" category!

A more scientific answer...... I'm guessing that the SCSI fuse has blown - a SCSI fuse is a component on the SCSI board that looks like a transistor.... it is a actually a fuse! It usually blows by 'hot-swapping' SCSI devices which are still powered on. S3000XLs commonly have this probl and there is a kit available on eBay to fix this for about £20.

I'm assuming that the MPC has a SCSI fuse?

im not sure if it has a fuse...

ive tried everything mentioned and still cant get it to work..
its been so long since ive used the scsi - can somone remind me which zip drive works for the mpc ? i have two i tried but they might both be dead...

one has the 5/6 switch and termination switch, my other zip drive doesnt have any switches..

i may need to buy a new zip drive to test out...

The one without the Termination ID on the back is useless i have 2 of them but they won't work cause you need the Termination ID on the back and set it to 6 and make sure it's set To ON and then go into MPC and set it to make SCSI ID #6 Active

So i finally got a new zip drive off craigslist..
Turns out it was just the zip drive and not my scsi that went on my 3k..

So after a year, i can finally save again! lol..

Im so used to just sequencing battery now, itll be weird to go back to sampling/chopping on the MP again...
