Are all floppys standard

I have a 60 II

Can I swap one out of a computer and into my MP? I went home last night to find that my son had jammed a floppy in and the shutter broke off in the drive. I turned the MP sideways and it fell out... then I noticed that the door to the floopy lost a spring and was falling off... well while I had it sideways, the dorr broke all the way off and fell inside the drive... I took in all apart and got the door out but when I tested the drive to see if it would load anything, it told me to put a disk in so I guess I need another floppy... so I was walking around work and I'm trying to see if I can swap a floppy... will it work?

Although I'm upset that I can't use my machine, this was an opportunity to see the inside and I plan to get some allen wrenches so I can see if I can clean the inside were the drumpads are and were the numeric buttons are... somebody help me...

All floppys are not standard. You need a special floppy for the 60. If you dont have OS 3.10 and never plan on getting it, you can get a floppy from Route66 Studios. Google it. If you do plan on getting OS 3.10 you have to go to akai or thru one of the authorized service centers.

Whats are the diferences between the operating systems? I'm pretty sure that I have the older one as I bought my MP from someone in like '97...

I called Pasadena California and the guy told me that you need a special floppy drive and he qouted me $160! Whoa... but he said that you have a one in ten chance that a regular floppy drive might work. I thought that was wierd.

Yeah im testing some older floppies right now to see if they can be modified to work with a 60 w/the 3.10 upgrade. It really is hit or miss. It has to be a special type of older floppy too with special settings and all that crap. The progress is coming slow, but im getting there.

OS 3.10 is incredible tho. It basically turns your MPC into a MPC 3000 (withouth the added sample time)

The easy way to find out tho is to just Turn on your MPC. The OS Version shows up on the FIRST screen that pops up when you turn it on.

Definately get the lowdown from roger linn and forat, get a floppy that is compatible with a 3 OS.

There has NEVER been any issue with Route 66 floppy drives or for that matter any replacement drive available from any company with the many differnt MPC OS versions, this was simply a hoax.

Guys the Route66 drive works just fine if your using the correct floppy discs, read your manual!!! the MPC60 is a DSDD 720K unit, this means the MPC60 has a DSDD 720k FDC controller CHIP SET on the main board and is only setup for DSDD 720K discs. Now in the past you could get away with the HD discs with the 10yr old original drive because it was also made 10yrs ago, these older drives do a poor job of media detection and allow the HD discs to pass. Any NEW 2000 to the current 2007 drives are vary good at media detection and only allow disc media that matches the FDC controller CHIP SET in the MPC60. I hope this clears up any confusion and if anyone has ANY question about floppy drives and the MPC just ask me.
