Need help tringering Sp1200 from MPc 3000

Are any of you using the 3000 to senquence SP1200 sounds ? I heard there is .pgm file is available on the net which has been setup so that all the banks on the SP are in ling with the MPC 3000 ....

I haven't tried it myself tho'. I like to seqence my SP1200 samples with the SP1200's sequencer. I like that sequencer. I love the whole machine: few choices and menu's makes the workflow fast. I'm much faster with the SP1200 than with my MPC.

Agreed, i've never noticed any advantage to triggering the SP from the MPC. To me, it just sound like an MPC loaded with some SP12 samples. That can work too, but if you actually *have* an SP, it always seems to sound nicer just working on its sequencer and slaving the MPC to it (if you're adding more samples etc..).

i agree but 2 of my buttons on my Sp are stuffed so i don't have much choice ... and i also like to use the sounds from within my MPc too

I guess that would give you the impetus to use the MPC as the interface, but for me, I still wouldn't bother. If it's two drum pads that don't work, I would just assign sounds elsewhere - you still have 24 sounds you can trigger. Maybe it's the sequencer pads though... then you're in trouble. Anyway, good luck.

One of the reasons to use the MPC's pads instead of the SP1200 is the dynamic pads that responds a bit different than the SP1200's plastic buttons. Good for hi-hats and such.

But myself, I use my SP1200 and MPC3000 seperately even though they stand right next to eachother. I kind of like the plastic buttons to! But I think I have to try out how the hi-hats will be with the MPC pads.

You assign sounds according to the midi number from the sp1200. It's just like hooking a synth to the MPC. You use a MIDI and not a DRUM setting in your sequencer or something like that. I have only used synths with MPCs.

Because it's fast and easy.

With my MPC i have many options with timing correction settings and stuff like that. Many individual tracks for each sample and so on.
But still it's faster for me to just go ahead and place my stuff with the SP's sequencer. It's just record+trig. Either with timing on or no timing correction at all. It also makes me laying more notes without correction.

And I use my ear even more with my SP. The display shows minimum infrmation.

Of course I double the BPM on my SP (I also do this on my MPC) to get double the resolution.

But I love the MPC's sequencer too. But I love working at one machine at a time. I like to load one floppy and there is the whole beat. One output. One unit turned on.

But I will try using the MPC's pads for the velocity stuff. Maybe it will improve my SP beats' dynamics. (tho I usually copy samples and give them different volume settings giving dynamics)

This will probably work with the same file. I can play my MPC sounds with a synth and the synth with my MPC. But it has to be hooked both ways: in and out of both units (two MIDI cables)

what does that mean ??

If you are making a beat in 90 BPM type in 180 BPM in your sequencer. Or tap double time when finding the tempo, and it will pop to 180 instead of 90.

This will give you double the resolution!

-Plus you get faster count-in metronome on the MPC. I don't like to wait a whole bar before laying drums.
(And after using the 1200 for a long time I have stopped using the count-in function at all. It's not that necessary anymore.)
