Editing samples on XP

Is there any way to edit the sounds (*.SND) from the MPC60 on a computer (without resampling it). I have Win XP. If I plug in a floppy that came out the MPC, Windows cant read it.. I now that Awave and Cooledit can open/ save them... but WinXP cant. How do we fix this? Is there some utility for XP that can read floppys formatted on the MPC60?

I m using Akai MPC60 MK1 with OS 2.12 (MPC has no options yet, only a floppydrive)

As far as I know, you can do anything you want with the samples on XP (i.e editing them, adding effects, convert them etc) but what you can't do is transfer them to the DD disks in XP. You can put them on the disks alright, but you'll get long filenames in the MPC which screws up the loading of the samples (at least in OS 2.x).

What you'll need to do is transfer them to the DD disks on a win95/win98 machine. That will do it.

However, I think you should be able to at least read the MPC-formatted disks on a XP machine. They're dos in format after all..

Try what the manual says: use DD disks.

DD or HD as media hasn't anything to do with the way XP handles the data on the disks. I can read MPC-formatted DD disks on my XP as weel as HD ones. What's best for the MPC is another thing though.

So, if I have a pc with Win 98SE and a Fat formatted HD (not Fat 32) and Cool edit installed, I can easaly switch sounds bewteen the pc and MPC..., no?

Here s what I want to do:

1: Drop a sample etc on a floppy (MPC60)
2: Open that sample in Cool edit Pro (from on the floppy) and then edit it, apply effects etc. Then save it back to that same floppy, with the same name and extention
3: Open the edited sample back into the MPC60's memory to get back groovin' .

Is that possible with Win 98SE and a Fat formatted drive and Cool edit pro2 ? ( I want to do this with me current OS 2.12, but I still want to do that using OS 3.10, later on)

Pus, are those mpc 60 formatted disks?

I do this all the time with SF and 98SE.

Yeah! No problem *reading* these mpc60-formatted disks in XP.

However, if I copy any new files onto these MPC-formatted disks in XP, these files can't be used in the MPC - the filenames get corrupted in all sort of ways. Have to use a dos-bootdisk to manage this copy instead. You can find all sorts of different ones at http://www.bootdisk.com/

Yeah you can do it, it's certainly possible. However, Awave does something with my wavs (when converting to 12 bit .SND) which **** up the sound considerably when being loaded into the MPC-60. Don't know if any other has this problem when converting waves into .SND?

if you have 3.10, you can use the MPC editor reliably.

Try using DD disks?

Regardless, I know of nothing that will correctly convert OS2.x SND file to anything editable on your computer once it is there.

Did you let your MPC-60 format that DD disk? It really should work.

Its a HD disk. Maybe thats the problem..
