LOL, I kinda had the same reaction but it's not that bad once you get on with it bro!

We all have different issues with things like this.
The buzz-killer for me is being able to use outside sounds.
I can't see the point. Just use the samples given. Be creative.
Manipulate any sample with envelopes, eq and fx to create synths, bass, drum sounds, etc.
But I know I'm in the minority with this thinking so... flow...

Not alone Holmes! I'm with you on this. I love tweeting samples to get the synth sound I want. My last couple submission have been personal challenges where I did not create my usual way. I've been turning keys into ripping guitars. And I can't stand the distorted metal guitar sound. Can't stand metal! So I've forced myself to use the sound i hate.
I like the challenge obi laid down here. Id like to see how many actually do the whole song thing. This is why he has presented this challenge. Allot of submissions are just a 8 bar loop with a couple drum pauses. Maybe a little map mute play. For instance look at saadyah's submission did not follow the rules of structure or the audio drops or drum stops. These battles are mostly for fun. I enjoy them personally cause I do get to see how these guys grow and get better with each battle. And I like my growth. The rules are there for some structure and order to the battle but in all reality if you submitted a track that did have a single note from the sample nobody would even say anything.
It would be really cool if these became a little more serious. Where if you didn't follow the rules your track was not admitted in the vote thread. And we won something. Even just forum love like some tag in your avatar or medal? Or found some sponcers to throw down gifts.

When we look at rules and go Ooh I don't like that, go with it, there's your window to learn, Ivory is right, I'm sick of loops, by now we should of advanced in Hiphop to different formula's, not only that, stuff gets really boring if you don't change your game. Also some rules do not fit the sample posted, there is more than enough content in both samples, no amazing drum break to chop, so there are your rule guides. some don't do this with battles and force a situation where we're all going to sound pretty similar.

If you use just the samples then that is really dope, I'm not holding a gun to anyone's head, saying you must. I always use the word Objectives or tasks, not rules. That word causes to much greif and trouble with 99.9% of Humans. But when someone comes in and whinges about the sample, then the rules, I just think, go make a banger , win it then make your rules up. This whole battle was a complete rush, and basically lucky it got going, so count yourself luck there is a place to battle. Enough of this and back to making beats!! thats why we're here.

 And here I was about to whine about not feeling that Witch Hunt sample & setting the 'no drums for 4 bars & no synths' rule when the samples have no drum free sections! How're you supposed to deal with that?!

Will see if I can get an OK flip done on time... :Sigh: At least Idris' song's fire & comes with a break.
