my mpc is rusting

my mpc is rusting or molding or degenerating or something mang. it's harshing my mellow. stressing me out. i don't want to lose my mpc

i could buy another, but i don't want to. i want this one.

what can i do to stem the tide? do i have to just replace the panel

First find the eliminate the moisture in the environment it's kept in. A studio should not be humid as it will cause problems with all your gear, so it's best to find out what's causing it.

As for stopping the rust - if I want to stop the rust on one of my old saws, I rub it down with fine steel wool to clean it up, but then have to make sure it's kept permanently oiled to stop the oxygen getting to it. Not really viable for the back of an MPC.

I reckon go for the option others have - spray the backplate with a matt black 'rust protection' paint, such as the ones from plastikote.

a dehumidifier was already on my shopping list; 10-4. however, i don't think it's this specific environment so much as it is the mileage. the mpc has moved with me between at least six different places since 2006 or so.

spraypaint idea strikes me as the sort of solution i was looking for, though i was hoping for something that wouldn't involve me taking it apart.

since i'd be taking it apart anyways, can i just buy a new hunk of metal? if i'm going to get my bathing suit wet, there's not point not diving in and getting my hair wet too.

but it is not silver...it is black..I would love to see the silver back plate as I love the style of it in my blue mpc1k, and it is a bit rusty too...
