MPC PADS... best feel?

ok so this question may be a bit too picky but the fat pads are 1 of my fav things for the MPCs... however i have found that the feel is far worse (to me stiff maybe) esp on the Black pair... anybody tried any of the other colors if they are all stiff or what not?

not sure i could go with some crazy colors but... just curious

Being that they're from the same manufacturer I think the colored ones might feel even stiffer. I bought an XL once and the guy had some MPCStuff yellow standard sized ones in there. They even had a bit of use on them, totally stiff in comparision to the blacks, greys or any Akai OEM pads.

I have the black Fat ones in an MPD and they did soften from the finger grease absorption but just generally that's a thick ass piece of rubber. Almost too thick for my tastes, I only use the Fat ones in the MPD32 and my 1000 as those machines are near unusable without them.

new pads never feel good!, I've been thru about 7 mpcs and can tell you the older the mpc was, or more use it's seen the better the pads felt...the two mpc 4000's particurarly pads felt the best, real soft and responsive

pad rubber softness is unimportant compared to whether or not there is a gap between the pad sensor and the rubber underside of the pad. fill it with silicone and adjust your note on settings if your mpc model is capable of doing so.

i think there is definitely a place in the market for mpc stuff or somebody else to come out with a set of SOFT PADS for the mpc.

the original mpc pads, the new mpc pads, the fat pads... i think all of them are way too stiff! i'm looking for a pad that is firm enough so you get good velocity response & sensitivity, but soft enough so that your fingers actually sink into them a little bit. i have tried out a bunch of pad controllers out there and i haven't come across any that really have a good feel. i think a lot of people would buy a set of soft pads if they were available.

should be easy to make. you can use the existing molds, just get a softer rubber formula!

however, side note.... that 35-40 dollar shipping charge (to canada) makes it not worth buying from mpc stuff. That flat rate shit is ridiculous... you can fit a set of pads into a regular CD mailing envelope and it would cost 2 bucks to send.

have done same thing to my 1k with thin pads from upgrade kit, have try with three, four, five and six layers of tape on different pads and for me the best is four layers setup, when i try to put six layers of tape the pad didn't work. i'm using this diy upgrade for two days so i can't tell there are no fallouts of using it but so far so good

dont think fattys are softer, think they bit harder due to thickness of it...but I agree about the market for softer material. I'd get a pair myself..there has got to be rubber softening solvents out there

40 shipping to canada seem bit steep, you tried getting quote from VST for comparison purposes

I didn't know vst had or shipped fat pads.... my complaint about the 40 shipping is based on the fact that the pads cost 40... give or take. That doubles the price.... not saying 70-80 bucks isn't worth a great upgrade in any situation... but when the shipping doubles the price it puts you off.

They need to find out what rubber clarks uses for wallies

i just got the fat white pads for the 1k today, they are a little stiffer, but wayyy more sesitive, i had regualr black ones before, you can hit these wayyy softer, pretty cool.

i agree though, a softer rubber would be cool.

I've used this stuff for my reel 2 reel rubber pinch rollers.

It's supposed to soften the rubber and stop it drying out... as well as clean it.
Anyway I might rub some onto a few mpc pads to see what it does.

Also on here they recommend silicone spray for softening rubber boots... maybe one of you wants to try that...

..I also see people recommending vaseline for achieving the same

dont you think vaseliene would corrode the pads? or any of that softening stuff? essentialy what vaseline does is eat the rubber.

Possibly, you could instead try a neutral smelling oil ... I usually wouldn't let corrosive substances go near my gear .. I clean my gear with organic soap and polish up with almond oil....
But if you're replacing the pads soon anyway no harm in trying out some rubber softening tricks.... (keeping the substances away from the mpc paintwork)
