Understood...to be honest with you when I made the initial post I wasn't sure if I wanted to try to sell a solution or just show people how to mod it. As I'm speaking with you guys now though I think it's better for everybody if I just show you how it's done and you run with it.

I'd like to see some income from modding MPCs one day, but at this point all we're doing is changing out a power supply....better to take business dealings out of the equation.

The secrecy isn't really secrecy...I'd like to post plans when I'm sure the solution has been fully tested (I'm telling you now the mod really is not complicated)...thinking now the initial post was a little premature. Anyway, the PMs are working for people to ask detail oriented questions involving their individual set ups and needs.

Will try to post pics of the 1000 running on a 12v power supply tonight...must get to work.

This is a community, for discussing things. So I recommend you post whatever info you have, in whatever state it is in. Even a pic of the power supply circuit would help, as I can look at it on my lunch break and not have to open my mpc to study the circuit. Someone else might post numbers for the current draw. Someone else may recommend a battery which would suit...

I understand your desire to make some money from mods. There'll always be people willing to buy a simple kit. Until then, actively leading a discussion within the community will get you feedback, suggestions, willing beta testers, and most importantly, recognition and respect. All of these are very good things if you plan on someday making cash from mods. You don't need a product, or even have it working to get peoples interest and help..

Right on...and I don't think anyone thought you were trying something shady, just that it seemed goofy to make a public post asking for pm's and then to continue talking about it in the public forum. I think you'll find as the interest grows, you will save yourself a lot of time and grey hair if you post it all out in the open as you go, and not have to deal with duplicate questions...but that's just me.


That said, we have had our fair share of swindlers/bullshitters here so any friction you felt was simply from those trying to make sure the forum was kept safe and sound.






Keep up the work and post pics if/when you get a chance.

Very true...this place contains the most knowledgeable folks on mpc's in ALL of the interwebz. There's a lot of help here to be found, especially when there's a project like this at hand and people pull together to get it to come to fruition. I think you'll see that an open-discussion will be a good thing.

If you post up what you have so far, I bet we can (as a community) put something together quite thoroughly and quickly.

I'm assuming the battery pack fits where the harddrive would normally go? If so, I think that's a fantastic idea. CF cards are so cheap now I don't see any reason to have a hard drive to be honest.

Battery pack fits where the hard drive would go and where the (old) power supply is. I'll do my best to make this post everybody's clamoring for tonight...busy busy day today.

I'm using an ATX extension cable to access the wiring on the PicoPSU (this could change-- you can see in the pictures it makes the wiring bulky) ($8 shipped):

The power supply runs on 12v, so a good 12v battery will run it, I've got one of these one the way, hoping it will be an easy plug and play ($30 shipped):

(FYI the PicoPSU uses a large barrel connector to connect to the 12v source).


Here's the process:

You remove the hard drive bracket, power supply, AC filter and plug receptacle, leaving you with this:

if you cant put 2 and 3 together... why you even looking at threads that relate to doing mods on your mpc? you need a painting by numbers diagram to put it together?
