never had to replace button on mv but I hear its pain cuz of all the stuff in the way. plan on swapping for black pads in near future and not lookn forward to all the screws I gotta undo

yeah I think you will need to take out the drives and shit just to access the pad assembly section of the machine.

the mv is damn annoying to open up and work on.... it's a total hassle... I suggest buying the pads.... and dont open it until you need to go in there for something else. Get all the upgrades at ones... a stealth fan (low noise, better quality), high end hard drive (longer lasting), etc....



P.S. the MV uses garbage encoders for the faders... thank god they are rarely needed (ie: you can input values manually) they dont seem easy to fix, contact cleaner didn't do much to fix them.... and I opened the assembly up and cleaned them good.... that is something I didn't see mentioned on mv nation.

Hey, what do y'all think about the sequencer of the MV? I'd like to maybe get an MPC 1000 or an MV 8000 instead of my MPC 2000(because of the effects, easier communication with a computer...) but i heard the sequencer of the MV is more like a DAW sequencer rather than the one from the MPC 2000(based on sequences ...).
I really like the sequencer of my MPC, so i'm not sure yet, what do you think about this?

Hard to say. I love the sequencer in the MV, but MANY people do not. Especially if they're coming from an MPC. your going to have to be ready to relearn everything you know now. I have worked with a lot of Roland instruments in the past, so the transfer wasn't bad for me at all. I really think that most people give up on the MV too soon. There really is a method to the madness, as the MV really does make "sence". You just have to get into the rhythm of the machine and not be intimidated by all of the functions. You only have to go as deep into the MV as you want. If your commited to learn, I don't know how anyone couldn't love it. I deffinately seem to be in the minority on this one though.

you can work with it like a daw (in a linear fashion) or... you can make sequences... using the pattern mode. Actually, the pattern mode is awesome... and setting up the patterns in song mode is pretty genius. Using patterns in live pattern mode (I forget the name of that feature) is pretty cool..


the sequencer itself (the quantize, timing, and that stuff) takes a bit of time to wrap your hear around... it isn't set up on the same system as the mpc. I cant say I need that much depth in the timing... but it is cool once you know what numbers you like having it at.

I didn't know that about the patterns, it's nice cause it's really what i like about the MPC sequencer, i don't like to sequence on a DAW...

I'm tempted by the MV 8800 as I'm looking for a new sampler.

I come from a MPC background - duh, machines I owned in the past:

MPC1000
MPC2500 jjos xl - my favourite machine
Maschine - Meh
Octatrack

So I'm looking at the mv8800, someone said it was the closest to JJOS in terms of features and Roland have good effects too which is a plus.

However, how is slicing on this device, isn't it similar, better?. Is it non destructive chopping as well?

Is this a step sequencer as well?

Sound wise?

Any tutorials on the 8800 as I like to watch some vids or read about it beforehand but I do like the mv 8800 which seems like a slept classic.

yeah it has NDC... I always pictured it as being a keyboard but somehow it was born with pads instead... hahaha. It actually works great with a midi keyboard connected. Use the pads for the drums and single hits, and keys for the instrument patched (like pianos or what have you)...

I know a guy on youtube called overlor has both the 8000 and 8800... he has videos on his channel that show his techniques and there are some good ones. I believe he shows his trick of working with samples using one of the audio tracks rather than the standard midi track... those have different options so you can do different things. He did a few good vids showing that stuff.

Not so much a tip or trick but a fan mod.
Monday I bought the Silenx Effizio 80mm fan from Fry's Electronics to swap out the older & louder running stock fan in my MV8000.

Not a bad choice for a $10 fan since it has a 3 year warranty, fluid dynamic bearings, extra quiet (15dBA) and extracts more air (32 cfm) than my stock fan.

I'm getting 12VDC from fan's connector socket pin (red wire) on the circuit board. Just to test out the new fan, I connected it to the internal HD's power connector. It ran fine and even the blue LED shined bright. It's very extremely quiet!

Now I have to splice wires and secure it with screws to the MV frame. I'll have it completed by Friday along with pictures and/or a movie.

yeah I was thinking of getting some stuff like that for when I get back to work on my MV...

the effects might first amze u then later on u'll think they suck but once u fully understand how to use them their amazing!!

chopping is great, u can auto chop in a few different modes(beat, level, designated amount, etc.) i usually auto chop stuff then go in and fine tune it.

the step sequencer is the shit, gives u absolute control, and its pretty easy to use

the sound is good, i used to have an mpc2000 and i feel like it had more character to it, i think older mpc's have a particular sound that i really haven't heard anywhere else. but the mv can sound great once u master it.

I got a list of electronic projects I'm working on that I bought a bunch of parts for while I was at Fry's... capacitors for a broken 56" LED flat screen TV that I got for free, resistors for my x0xb0x, LED's for a friends Technics 1200 and the fan for the MV.

cool, yeah that waht i was wondeirng, if there was a little fan vent that you could see maybe in low light. i like little stuff like that, not so overpowering, but cool if you notice it. you guys have me wanting an mv again.

Pictures would be great, but a video would MAKE me do this. Just sayin...
