Akai S-Series Service Mode/Ram Check

Press the power button then hold down the "Mark/#" and "Name" keys together, wait for all the red lights to light up then whilst still holding those two buttons press the "+/<" Button.

S-3x/XL (Includes S-2800 innit) owners will get a RAM test, S-1100 owners will get a service mode where some adjustments and checks can be made, S-1000 owners I haven't got a clue.

There must be a backdoor way in to the S3x series to access more than a RAM check like on the 1100 but I haven't found it yet.

service manuals dont mention anything? the mpc2000 and the mpc2000xl service manuals both tell you how to get into theirs. mpc60 requires a boot disk.

I don't have the service manual for any of the 3x series would like to get one for my 3200XL but can't find one.

I got one for the S-1100 where I found out about that key combination

ahh.. im guessing PDFs for those are not easy to find? I know I found the s900 one on google a few years ago... (that is one of the older models..)


hmm... maybe the 3xxx series has a thing you do once it's booted already.. i wonder. Pretty interesting.. it's tough to figure out on your own when it's a device with so many buttons. I have figured out how to get into test modes on other gear that have only a couple buttons.

I certainly haven't been able to find them but if any one has one for the 3200XL I'd appreciate it.

Ha yea I tried pressing and holding random buttons too but as you say there are so many.

On my Waldorf Micro Q you can change the CPU clock, over clock it so it has more voices and all sorts.. or break it lol
