This.

I like the filter, it's a really nice one. A little bit different in a good way, and more let's say "organic" than a rest of AKAI samplers. Nevertheless, I still like to work with MPC3000 / ASR-10 filters better.

maybe is how you use it. I almost never sample bass notes, just not to lose time finding the right pitch, so what I do is i take on of the main chops im working with, the most 'beefy' one usually, and filter it so much it becomes a bass note. You can do that with a 2000, cranking the filter to 10,20 and maybe the resonance to 3-5, it gives a smooth subbass, then i map it and play it.. s950 is not that aggressive, filtering a sample all the way (to 0!) gives a lowfiltered version of the sample, not a pure bass, therefore not suitable for this need. Maybe it's useful to use the filter slightly, but I almost never do that, I either keep the original sample or trasnform it in a bass note as cited above

Started a thread specifically to discuss the S950 filter.

Can we try to keep this thread focused on the original post about S950/MPC3000 workflow and transferring samples between the two.

I have an s950 I use with a 2500 and it isn't so much a vibe killer as u think. The easiest way for me is to get all drums in the s950 and trigger them via midi. Once im done working I sample the drums in the 2500 and load each one shot into the pad I used to trigger it via midi. Once they're in I switch the track from midi to drum and boom its all in there. Its easier to do it at the end so you give yourself time to tweak your samples to your liking and you don't kill that vibe sampling n resampling all over the place.

Never used it much. mpc2000xl filter, which everyone seemes to be hating, works way better. incorporate a 950 in your workflow only if you need smooth sample looping or punchy drums. with an mpc3k you'd really need just the former imho. my two cents

I thought the 2KXL filter was pretty nice as well. You can get the bass to really come out well using it. Can't comment on the s950 having never owned one.

The key to getting a flowing fluid bass line, and this works really well for house. What I have done is sample a single Juno bass single wave, loop it, apply filtering between 30-40. Use the LFO to create a slide like experience, use the delay here works best. The key is to play around with the filter envelope, attack around 42, with a low release, have the filter envelope follower set to a high value, so you get some brightness in the high notes, also play around with the velocity setting controlling filter. You can really get those funky late 70's basslines going, this is on the s900 with the upgrade
