not all Teac fd-235hf drives work then?

I'm really confused. I'm trying to replace my akai s2800 floppy drive which is not working at all any more. and it's deffo the drive not disks tired 1000 of disks old and new.

Bought a Teac fd-235hf from Germany which looked good to fit the entire akai s3000 family (so s3000, s2800, s3200 etc) but when I look at it it looks different! the one I took out the s2800 had loads of crazy jumper things on the back but this new I got didn't but it's still a "fd-235hf "



oh and with the new drive in it just complained with "no disk" all the time. tried the data cable both ways too.

yeah you need those jumpers to set it to the mode that works in the sampler

^^either that or you got a drive where you can control settings via soldering points. There are many many versions of this drive the older ones got many jumpers others got a few and some have no jupmers at all.
Which version number do you have? (there is a number on the type plate. something like 7291 or a291 or 5291 as far as I know mostly 4 letters/digits long)

on the other hand....why do you use floppys nad no scsi device like an magneto optical drive (MOD)?
