Tx16w sample time question

I fired up my machine, and it's actually got 6mb of ram, which came from my old one that I canibalized and took apart. But when I went to sample something, even at 16k sample rate I can only sample 16 seconds of audio. I thought with 6mb I'd be able to sample like a minute or something, not sure. Is there just a limit to the length regardless of how much ram you have?

I always thought the more MB's the More sampling time. What happens if you try to sample without the ram in? Would you be able to try that? On my mpc 1000 I put the 128 mb ram in it and I get like 10 minutes of time.

the ram has a limitation itself in this older machine. Only 16 seconds at a time. Newer samplers seem to let you record huge samples, and obviously have more ram to begin with.

Oh. I didn't know that. I can see how that would be a pain.

the AKAI s950 seems to let you record much longer samples, but the unit I have doesn't have that much ram in it. It's cool because you can go down to 8000khz and it sounds like a phone line quality sound.

cool well it sounds like you figured it out for yourself. the best bet for long samples is to sample them in sections.

yeah, i've had the s5000 so I started thinking samplers are like wav recorders, but yeah, some of the older ones are basically just made for like, tiny samples, and making synths out of them.

just like the SP1200: sampletime 10 seconds but the "sample slots" are limited to 2.5 seconds. People still made classics with it
Another one is the Roland W30. If I remember correctly it was a limitation of 7 sec per sample.

@JDSY You can go even lower than 8000 with the resampling function if you like it really dirty Or normalize the sample first and then use the 6.Gain function wth something like 300% or 500%
