Espen Craft says the filter on the Akai S700 is analog...

Is he right about this and if this is true, does that mean the filters on the Akai S900 and S950 analog ?

I think that's correct, Akai S900 and S950 both have analog low pass filter. However, analog low pass filter can be added to production (like getting guitar pedal)

This is a very interesting revelation for me because I always thought the early S-Series samplers had great non resonant digital filters, but I guess they are digitally controlled which would make them hybrid if I'm rethinking this correctly.

I'm about to upgrade my S900 to S9V2 by swapping out my 1.2 EPROM to the 1.2.c EPROM and install the GoTex HXC Floppy Emulator so I'm doing lots of research and accidentally came across this Epsen Craft video...

Quick Disk... Ugh! I had one on my AKAI x7000 sampler keyboard. The QD drive always snaps a belt but they are easy to replace.

Any S900 with 1.0 - 1.1 will require the 1.2 EPROM chips to utilize the OS4.0 boot disk.

Since your S900 already has 1.2, it is not necessary to purchase 1.2c ROM chips to utilize the OS4.0 boot disk.

Yes digital controlled analog filter and doesn't have resonance. Unlike the SP 1200 which has a voltage controlled filter with resonance (the SM2044 chip) the s900/950 have a non resonance clock controlled filter (MF6CN-50). That maes it harder (if even possible) to mod a S900/S950. On A SP1200 you can relatively easy mod the filter to be adjustable in filterfrequency and resonance.

To be honest I'm a bit dissapointed by the S950 filter cause the frequency range is kind of strange. The chip provide a range frm 0.1Hz to 20kHz but the 950 doesn't use the whole range. The filtersetting of 0 represents a cutoff-frequency of ca 300Hz. And as long as you set it over 25 it won't change but still be at 300Hz. I first thought my 950 was damaged but I got 2 S900 and they behave the same.
