For anyone curious after much deliberating I just modded my ASR10rack with a slimline fan directly above the Ram Sticks.
Oddly enough the fan I used was already inside the machine cable tied to the psu but unconnected.
I looked up various old threads and resources prior to taking the plunge but ultimately followed a mod found on a french forum, so not taking credit for this.
I drilled some holes in the lid for the fan and then more to act as ventilation.
Next I took the the red and black wires and piggy backed them on the pins of the power header which worked great.
The one caveat is that despite the fan being a very low profile the lid does not go back fully. By sticking a few furniture spacers to the lid the fan has just enough room to spin.
It has only been the first night fingers crossed but hoping it will help alleviate the long term heat stress of the components.
There is a lot of different opinions advising not to do this but I was pretty shocked at just how hot the unit gets and wanted to give this sampler some longevity, so perhaps treat my case as the guinea pig and not as fact.
