Looking to sample through an sp1200 for Uni dissertation

So I have entered my final year of uni and am doing my dissertation on how the A/D with hardware samplers affect the audio the passes through them.

I have an MPC60 and 3000 as well as other Akai samplers, however the SP has always alluded me (mainly due to its price tag) so I am asking if there is anyone out there who lives in the UK that would allow me to travel to their studio, house, college etc to sample part of a record through it?

I live in Plymouth (UK) and would be willing to travel, depending on distance of course. I would appreciate any help you guys could give me.

I don't have the SP but I have some test tones (a sinesweep sample and a noise sample) that a forum member once did for me.
The samples are
1 sinesweep original (the one I sended him)
2. noise original
3. sinesweep thru the SP out 1
4. sinesweep thru the SP out 3
5. sinesweep thru the SP out 5
6. sinesweep thru the SP out 7
7. sinesweep thru the SP out 7 pitched -8 semitones
and 3-7 also with the noise sample

I can upload it if it helps you. Tho, you wont get the different sound from all the pitches. only the original and -8 semitones

You could send a .wav or .aiff for me to sample into my SP1200 m8.
Make it 48000/24bit or higher.
I have an RME Fireface 800 so quality won't suffer much.
I live in Sheffield which is too far to travel from Plymouth.

p.s. I can also sample into my S950, FZ1, S1000 and even my Amiga 1200 at 8 bit for you.

Appreciate the responses guys but unfortunately for the fairness of test it will have to be done through my needle mixer & interface so that the only variable is the sampler, which sucks as a would love to have the opportunity to use one. They are quite anal about this else I would have jumped at your offer.

How much did you get your SP for if you don't mind me asking?

It makes sense to make one recording of what you want to sample and use that.
Every time you play a record on your turntable it sounds different; a combination of record-wear, needle-wear, amplification differences, humidity, outside vibration, etc, etc, etc. Many variables.
It would be better to make one recording of your vinyl at a high sample rate and bit depth, then use that one recording to sample into multiple samplers.
But yes, the audio interface used for playback is also a factor.

My SP was cheap (well under £1000) because I had to repair it. It was the only way I could afford one. I'd been wanting one for more than a decade.

I would wait and see about the prices. A guy here on the forum who got an SP1200 when they came out and has since followed the used market said the following: They always sold around $2500 and that would be a fair price if the condition is good. Better or worse deals can always be found i think.

I bought mine from ARMEN (!) for 2350 if i remember right. I bought it out of frustration because i missed the last 5min of an auction on another one i had a bid placed for 1500 bucks. Lost to the only other person bidding and he got it for 1550 dollars. That was about 3-4 years ago.

The prices now especially armens are a joke. I believe they are buying them themselves (some have sold for the 4k he wants now). I don't believe anybody is actually paying that much.

IMO they will come down in price again someday.

A dissertation is another word for thesis.

You will have to humour me. I never did Uni. Still lost.

Think of a thesis as a larger scale research project that will be presented. The grade and the quality of your thesis is significant enough to determine if you'll fail out of university and what sort of job prospects you have in the future.
