yeah, I know :)

I just like to phrase things as rhetorical questions ;)

my point is that to get the sample on either of those it'd have to be played from something else first ... so might as well go straight to the s900

i hear plenty of people commenting on how they like the punchy sound of drums sampled on the s3000xl (and related machines).

but i got to say, the keys are sounding really good. i have some organ/electric piano programs that make beautiful chords. the filters, layering and modulation add some real charm.

I hope to god that all the expansion cards are still in it.

I decided to keep the s2800 also

man, if you wind up with every s series model... you HAVE to take a picture of that rack... that would be an awesome pic.

The S3200XL won't operate if the EB-16 is pulled. Unless the seller put a jumper on the connector to trick the sampler, then it's likely in there.

Unfortunately if you were hoping to also find a IB-304F inside, you will find out that the chipset is built into the motherboard and not removable.

so here's something i've been wondering about... i currently have two AKAI S900 samplers in my possession... one of them has OS version 1.2 on it, but the other only has version 1.0... i've read up as much as i can regarding how to update the OS to 4.0 and it appears that this is only possible from version 1.2... i've been able to find os2.0 and os4.0 online, but they both require 1.2 to work... so what i want to know is: how do i go about updating the one with 1.0 to version 1.2?? i originally thought i would be able to create a new system disk from the one with 1.2 and just load that into the other one, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all... is it possible to do?? or is 1.0 vs 1.2 actually a difference in chips and not in software? ???

well maybe that is the case, it is possible that the older OS doesn't include the feature of flashing the eprom... isn't that one of the features new to the 3000?

Throw back pic of my S series racks

Look at how much sample time I had on the 5000... 11 hours and 5 minutes

My favorite S rack had to be the S 950 for it's filter until I got the bright idea to get a real analog filter. If only I was that smart 19 years ago LOL

so to answer my own question... i've verified that the 1.2 firmware is in fact a prom chip that needs to be replaced internally... and not something that software can remedy...
