Got SERIOUS problem with Ensoniq EPS 16. Anyone who can help

Why are you connecting the EPS Midi Out to the MPC anyway?

Handshake mode is usually for better communication when transferring sysex or transferring samples over a Midi cable between machines.

See, my problem didn't finish. I got a clue about the issue: I'm almost 100% sure that's not the MIDI connection problem at all.

The sampler's been working fine for couple of days. Today however ensoniq started to get crazy again: the screen started to light on different option lights very rapidly to finally get stuck with only EDIT light on twice as intensive but as always: the sound was still going out of it.
BUT: I observed that lights got dimmer and volume level got slightly lower and again light got brighter and volume returned to its original gain.

I think sh*t's got something with power supply. Ofcourse I got the european version: 230V. Now - I read somewhere long time ago that these samplers got something like a battery which can be removed and exchanged for a new one.

Do anyone knows anyting about the battery and got a clue about the issue?

Sorry man don't know about that, however 2nd options I can think of, look for a place in ure town that does repair on ensoniq keyboards I know might b a bit of a stretch depending on where u live but until u look u never know. Other than that while I was looking for cf reader options I came across the site of a guy who lives in California who used to work for ensoniq ( if I had the link id send it to u but I'm sure can't b hard to find) mayb send him an email, not a lot of people answered ure first post so I doubt if u ll get much response from this one. But b4 u go spending a bunch of money on something that may or may not b the pblm ( even tho u may suspect it to be the battery or w/e especially with the blown fuse u had.) Might b a good idea to just get it serviced or just buy a nu one. But mayb u ll get lucky and get a response from someone. Good luck man.

At the same time ure eps might just having issues with overheating, I don't know how long u use the machine , keep it on for, but mayb just keep it off for a few and only work for short stretches. Turn it off when its idle for a bit. The other thing too to prevent overheating try to put it on a stand instead of a table and run a fan on the back. I know mine occasionally freezes if I push it for too long or switch thru menus really fast repetitively.

Ok, I did a few searches and I came up with some info, a common pblm seems to b that the ribbon cables get oxidized so u may have to clean em and reseat them, other than that there's numerous things that could b wrong. One of the tell tale signs of the ribbon cable pblm is when u use it when u press a button do characters appear on the screen (obviously ones that shouldn't b there). Anyways the info is out there and if ure looking for eps parts SUNTRUST sells pretty much all of em.

Look, for sure it's not about the heating. It can crash 3 minutes after beeing switched on.

In previous post I was sure it's about MIDI connection but probably it's got something to do with power circuit. I've even tried and plugged it to another socket but it crashes as well.

I've already wrote an e-mail to people who do repair old and mostly analog synthesizer in my country but even if I had to send it to service it'll be pain in the ass: it's about 500 miles away from where I live. However I don't see point in buying new one: I'd probably have to get one on ebay from Europe (and the price will be higher than in US for sure) because getting one from US would kill me: taxes, customs, shipping costs...hell no.

I didn't have such problems. I mean no unknown/unwanted characters appeared on the screen during pressing buttos, moving sliders etc. Anyway thanks for the hint.

My friend who uses analog synths said something about small batteries inside ensoniq and he thinks that may be a clue. From the other hand I wrote to a guy from NY who rapairs samplers and he thinks it may be a serious problem with motherboard. Sh*t really gets me crazy.

Syntaur has all the parts u would need but that's the thing, if u don't know what it exactly is, there's no point in ordering parts, if I were u id just open it up, clean stuff out with deoxit, get a copy of the schematics to compare and c if u can't see what's wrong ureself.I mean if u have a pblm that requires a part and u can't get it serviced ull have to open her up eventually. And if it is just a matter of cleaning and reseating the ribbon cables that's great, if not u can at least take some pictures of the inside to send them to someone who knows better and can actually tell u u what part u need.
