It's true that they haven't announced anything big yet. The only big thing has been a keyboard of a large size that offers nothing new. So many keyboards…seriously?
Akai should really tone down their hype and cater to their MPC crowd as they're losing their credibility, big time, imho.

I've always been a massive Akai fanboy and their old products still inspire me to no end, but watching all this makes me feel kinda bad for them…it's almost the same feeling as watching somebody get beat up…in a way you know you shouldn't watch it.
This, too, gives me the "Sh!t, I wish I could help" feeling.

Their FB page will be catching a lot of sh*t…

Maschine has been around longer than the Ren. They're already up to version 2.0 of their software, and they have 3 different models of the hardware. Everyone knew, or at least should have assumed that it would take a while to catch up to a product that was already a few years ahead in development. Maybe there is more in store for the Ren. It would really be a shame if there wasn't because competition among manufacturers is a good thing for consumers.

I do agree with you 10,000%. BUT....If they would have put the time and energy into the software FIRST and beta tested it with the midi controllers they already had out. FIRST... minus the audio in/out stuff.

The basis and basic functions of the mpc software could have been beta tested for the last year or so with mpd/mpk controllers. Would of been a better move then to put so much focus on a NEW "Controller" ren/studio and less into the software that helps them function and charge customers $1,299 for a controller that barely functions like an mpc and then spoon feed them the updates.

Instead of playing catch up, they should be playing "Function". As you can see by the many new controllers for Namm.. its NOTHING for them to make something that "LOOKS" good (bling). Functionality is the key. especially when people spent $1,299 LAST year for something that still does NOT work like they want it too in 2014 . Just my opinion..

The Correct order for the release should of been...

1 .Akai Mpc essential software release - product works for mpd/mpk products ( the real beta testers)

2.Mpc Studio Release with full mpc software release

3.Mpc REN - Completed ! from this point updates would of been benefits. NOT bug fixes.

Making the software run great first with existing midi controllers would of had consumers begging for what we know as the studio and ren today. And it would of worked out so much greater. They need to be forward thinking.. yes..but not focus so much on "catching Up" to NI..

Would of had less bugs and less upsets..might of took a "little" longer..but trust me. would of worked out better in the long run. people feel scammed at this point ! Its hurt the brand.. and the customer base.

Building a car and figuring out if the engine will run in that car later is backwards.. imo

But hey I could be wrong. We'll shall see what is to come...I wont hold my breath though. The price drop is another story..

I don't think we're getting any Ren updates at Namm you guys.

This is what I was thinking as well!!! Except for 1.6... I'm on Snow Leopard, so no more updates for me till I update my OS...

So to sum it up, new midi controllers from 3 brands inMusic owns, mostly identical,
a old new headphone which is the same as the M-audio.!

I say **** mister JACK O’DONNELL and his lack of vision, innovation and originality.

I will never again buy a product that inMusic Brands owns.!

Kicked in the balls again huh. Told you ignore that announcement.

Whats even mindboggling is that most still believe in Akai in 2014.

If this is the big news I think the value of hardware MPCs just went up.

Personally, and as many others, i don't give a f*** to these new keyboards-toys, even if i can be sure that they'll be sold-out. Akai release keyboards, new keyboards… always keyboards...with touch-led faders, without… and now with pads… It's a so strange politic. Market is full of keyboards, a 150 octaves keyboard i can do with all that black and white mess, controlling my grand mother with all these knobs and bleeps and low quality screens where i can see her crying in low def.

How long does takes all these dev, instead of improving the Ren software drastically, with the most important users requests (100+) and thinking a new Ren hardware add-on like a fader unit with 16 or 24 new labelled lcd encoders like the Mackie C4, for example, or an improved MPC standalone/Software hardware ?
Hire quickly 10 engineers to help the staff and Pete, who does ten things at the same time. Create something exciting and useful, BIG. No ? Answer me, please.

They would be the f******G first !!! And everybody would sell soul to buy it. What they are waiting FOR ? Maschine Studio has 50% failed the bet, IMO. Is imagination and sexy products definitely out of subject, for approximative business plans ? The new EWI is a good thing, but how much owners will be concerned, compared to the Ren users ?

And why doing monitors and headphones, IPhone apps ? IT-IS-NOT-YOUR-F******G JOB ! One thing is sure for me : the APC and Push were the last sexiest Akai-Ablt product, and when i look elsewhere, for example the new M-Audio surface, no emotion compared to a C4 Mackie : Hardware instrument market goes down, except for Mr Smith, Elektron; Moog and Oberheim and Nord, some exceptions like Seaboard, Elgenharp, and the eternal workstations, but these workstations are not so far sexy. Akai needs a craftmenship revolution, if it wants to survive, put these all marketers out : Build the Iconic MPC, right now ! Create some SURPRISE.
I'm happy to consider soon the Allen & Heath GLD 80, it will reconcile me with hardware. But it's not an MPC, and not an instrument, and far not Akai-spiritualized.

Akai is hilarious. I think Pete and his people have good intentions but they seem to be severely under staffed.
