NI Maschine Educational Version???

I currently use the MPC2500 with JJOS2.

I personally hate tracking out my beats to ProTools. I also dont like that on the MPC my beats get made to a point of being a rough draft but the finishing touches (Final Draft) get done on ProTools. This happens because of mixing, adding efx, adding other sounds through VST's and touching up the transitions from sequences. This always slows down my process of beat making.

I think Maschine will help me cut the time down on getting a beat done.

you should try it... hey dont the music stores down there give you a refund within 30 days of purchase? Or does that not count for software?

you should try it, that's how I end up with all this different gear, testing out if it will fit my workflow...but I think hip hop beats arent about complexity but simplicity which mpc does quite well imo...once you get into computer beats shit can go south with all the options and possibilites...I would keep your mpc if you getting maschine

wouldnt work cuz of the software and s/n...but even if it did which it wouldnt they would slap him with 15% restocking fee...best bet would be scoring one second hand online, try it out if it dont work out sell it for profit or break even

So do you suggest I buy a Brand New Sealed EDU Version or should I buy a used one on eBay and have the ownership transferred to me?

oh the restocking fee.. didn't know about that as I have never done that... I just read many times on here about people getting certain gear and returning it within the 30 days or what have you.

yeah maybe go for a used one, but be sure they unregistered the license.

I think edu is harder to resell if anything cuz I dont think you can transfer the license in particular version...personally I would go for second hand unit...there is no way to check if the license has been unregistered already or not without actually going thru the registration process, at least to my knowledge...

That pretty much covers it for NI licensing process, and no transferring of Educational licenses is permitted. (Although in the past I think you could). The transfer initiated by the buyer requires more time usually for NI to find the status of the license like konc3pt mentioned. A regular transfer with NI can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks. I have grands invested with them, and basically their response times suck. I have at least 4 completely unanswered service tickets in the last 1-1.5 years, and they've taken as many as 28 days to respond to me.

They have a phone line in Los Angeles, and if you're willing to be put on hold for 15 minutes on long distance, you'll get a human and get sorted.

I know this the EDU version thread, but if you know someone who owns KORE you could have them get you one brand new at $399 during the discount grace period NI is allowing. (I think until the of the year)

What blows though is that even the EDU Versions go for less or same price as a used version.

People also dont state if the License will be transferred

out of curiosity, (cause I never did that and I dont know anyone who has) what do you do to check.. like.. is there a way to meet up with the seller on craigslist and call a number to ask the status of the license number? Cause metatron made it seem like this could take weeks and usually sales are final.

I have no idea lol. I was assuming that if the deal is done in person he could check their running version to see if it is a EDU version. I mean would that many people have an EDU version? I would think an EDU version would be kind of rare.

If I was in that situation I would make the seller initiate the transfer right in front of me or produce copies of his email transfer correspondence. Or jot the license number down and phone NI in LA and make them look it up. (Again calling can accelerate NI processes infinitely.) Hopefully the seller would be on the level from jump, and worst case scenario you phone NI and kick them in the butt.

I'm gonna do a Battery 3 transfer soon, I'll let you guys know about the time frame as it plays out.

I have solld several NI products over the years. It was a smooth process. I gave the buyers all the documents/serial numbers. I sent NI a message asking them to remove the items from my registered page and sent them the name of the new owners. Within 48 hrs, the products were transferred.

Nice. There are worse stories on their forums, so that's good to hear. Hopefully their recent re-configuration of the company puts an end to 20 day gaps in service responses and the more extreme situations some users have had to deal with.
