Armen probably remains in business due to sales to commercial buyers/studios/signed producers and desperate private individuals. He can offer warranties and repairs unlike private sellers on eBay. Can't really knock the guy too hard, he's trying to put food on the plate with each sale (low volume=high cost). The business model works for him it would seem.

^ I was one of the desperate guys who bought an SP from Armen (after missing the auction ending of an SP sold from Singapore which sold for 1500 bucks)... was so pissed i messed up following that auction, bought one from Armen right after. Was 2300 bucks back then... now he's at 3600... lol.

3600 still better then the Immaculate Black E-Mu SP-1200 with upgrades!!!!!!! For 10,000.00. How can that for 10,000 compete with the black and red one on there now, I dunno.

Seeing less and less on Ebay. I only knew about the 10,000.00 one because this second hand shop had an SP1200 and I got really excited. He comes to say "well on ebay there going for 10,000 so I like to get at least that" O.o Why do people use ebay as the price guide of the world? I hear that so much from people. "Well if you look on ebay, so this is my price".

But, they are getting to that point where you spend a lot if it's important enough to you, you will get it. Or yeah sometimes maybe catch one cheaper. Knowing how they are only going to go up and up and up, is a thought.

I don't know anything about the ARMENS guy except his prices are always the highest usually. He does a lot i've seen with stuff have the orginal packaging and manuals which is prolly a big sale point for a lot of people. I mean I've heard a lot of people who decide to buy things because it comes with the box. I heard it said once someone made a good point saying, it says something about the owner who had it before, took well enough care of stuff that they keep em.

I've been to Armen's store a few times. He's got a lot of cool shit and a lot of rare shit. All of it's way overpriced. But real estate in NYC has gone through the roof, so it don't surprise me at all. Nice place to window shop, and hit up the corner store looking to win the lotto. :lol:

The one for 10k is a joke, nobody will ever buy that, not even a rich collector. Even rich people don't like getting ripped off.

3600 is a stupid price too, and i don't expect people to pay it.

I think 2500 is a price where you still feel ok. I know i did... not once did i feel that i paid too much, because the SP was worth it for me, even at that price.

I didn't follow the last one where several people were bidding, but it was at 2500 and only had one picture where the SP was full of dust. The owner wrote in the auction text "dusty from storage, will clean once sold". People didn't seem to care... so i guess price indeed went up a little in regard to what people are willing to pay.

By the way: Armen uses the same pictures for all his SPs and probably other stuff too. The one i bought from him had a working backlight in the pictures and new slim fader buttons all looking perfect. Once i received it, backlight wasn't working and the fader buttons were the thick ones and some of them had some knacks in them (dents, teethbites, whatever you wanna call it). After this auction ended with me buying it, he re-listed another SP immediately after, with 100% exact same pictures. If you buy from Armen, don't think you're gonna get what you see in the pics, it's always the same pics. :wink:

PS: That you don't see many one ebay right now is not because they are getting less and less. More will pop up again for sure. The SP isn't exactly a rare piece of equipment. The reason we don't see so many is that it's a freaking awesome drum machine / sampler, and people who have one usually never want to let it go (most common reason to sell is that they desperately need the money), most people keep their SP forever because they love it so much. :nod:

If you could get over yourself (i know i've offended you), and could get past those hurt feelings and whatever it is that makes you have to get hurt over people who love their drum machine more than the regular guy.... maybe you would actually read what i wrote.

MOST COMMON reason they sell... MOST people keep it... that implies there is other cases where someone doesn't like the SP, doesn't use it, doesn't want it, etc. Fact is, MOST is an appropriate word / term to describe the ammount of people who bought an SP and like what they got and would never want to sell it again, compared to the ones who don't like it and sell it again. This further implies that usually people sell their SP if they need money, also it's USUALLY (can you read?) the last piece of their equipment that they let go... there is exceptions, please learn to read.

If you hate the SP so much and the people who own one and swear by it, then why are you even in this thread? Except to talk shit?

Makes very much sense. I guess that is common for quite a lot of peices of gear being sold. In terms Of market availbility, you could say rare in this case :) Hope im making sence to what I'm replying to, I cant click qoute on my phone properly xD

I dont think the 313 guy was upset with you, I think he's refering to someone getting desperate and selling their SP. I guess if it came down to rent, I would rather have a home then SP.

I fail to see any reason but blind elitism and good-ol-days syndrome to diss the last pete's joints. The exact same track you were defining as thin and digital, whatever thats supposed to mean, is an example of how he's been able to both maintain and adapt his unique style, without selling out nor becoming some dinosaur stuck in the golden age, like way too many people are, and this forum makes absolutely no exception. That track got all the pete flava, from the bass line to the droning sample.
It wouldn't fit cl's or rakim's vocals. It fits a more modern type of rapping and thats just a testament to pete's quality, integrity and professionalism.

My original SP12 Turbo came from Rogue and Armen talked them into selling it to me cheaper.
Armen was a lot cooler back in the 80's when he was the service department in Rogue.
Spending time with him was always cool since he was always working on something.

When they split he had a lot of new overhead and his numbers slowly started creeping up.
Eventually it just turned to greed.

I have a 100+ floppy library for the SP1200 that i copied from a friend. I never use them.

Honestly, who's using sounds from libraries with their SP? Look on the back, there's a sample input... just saying... :nod:
