PS: That's a decent mixer IMO. Many people with an SP use it together with a Mackie mixer (they apparently are a good combination). Used mine with an onyx 1640i, was not bad at all.

Sorry I do not support Armen's. One time when I went to NYC and i passed by his store and saw some SP's they do not look as good as the ebay pic. The buy it now one i got was for 2800 from miller's music. It is in mint. Yes it's a pretty penny but there is no peeling and the paint looks great.

Looks like I'll be getting that mixer. It will probably be the MPC60 or 200xl controlling the SP-1200 with each out of the analog keys. I think i'll also record the SP-1200 sounds and transfer them to the RYTM for more output goodness with p-locking. So let me calculate this out, 8 outs for the sp-1200, 4 outs for the keys, and 8 outs for the RYTM. Hmm let me look at that 22 channel then.

Hopefully Elektron makes machinedrum 3 with the SSM filters because once you P lock, you can't stop.

Yea, Elektron gear is something you buy 1 at a time and master slowly. RYTM is the easiest and from what people tell me Octatrack is the worse, but the payout is worth it. I've spent 60 hours messing around on the RYTM and am barely touching the tip of the iceberg. What's interesting about the synthesis engine on the RYTM is it can easily get to sub bass, but the synthesis engine for the drums on the analog keys/four have a slightly different sound to them. The filters sound different too.

I really have hope for someone to make an SSM2044 filter chip. Dave Smith made an SSM 2040 chip in the Pro 2 and it sounds Amazing.

Either way I'm psyched for my SP. Now I need to look up which HxC model works the best for it.

I can confirm that ARMEN uses different pictures than the actual units he is shipping. I bought my SP1200 from him about two years ago for 2400 bucks. I think i was lucky, as it looks nearly mint like the ones in his pictures (no peeling, paint without scratches, etc). I also opened it up and it looks brand new inside everywhere. Still i had it serviced a few weeks ago (in switzerland) and it improved the sound and noise levels... cost me another 500 bucks.

I don't think you've paid too much. If you like the machine, you will agree it was worth every penny.

My tip for using the SP: Try it stand alone. Make a few beats with just the SP, it's a great experience. Also, you might wanna try out to use the SP as a master and trigger your MPC for samples... try quantized beats at double BPM and 67% swing in the SP, you'll get instant 90s boom bap groove. Triggering the SP and using other machines as master is cool too, but it would be a shame if you never try the SP as master, because you'd be missing out on that famous SP swing.

As far as mixers and number of channels go. I RARELY use all 8 outs of the SP. Much more common is 5 or 6... maybe another two from an MPC or ASR, and some more for sound modules, etc. I used to run out of channels when i had the 16 channel mackie, but that was a rare case.

Regarding floppy emulators, i would also suggest to try the SP with floppy disks first. You'll never need more than one floppy to save a beat... it has its charm working with floppy disks with the SP.

Anyway, just a few suggestions and basically my personal opinion (like they say, they are like arseholes, everybody has one ).

Sorry i work fast. Just ordered the hxc model F for the SP and my EPS.

After work today I will look at the mackie 16 and 22 channel mixer. I'll see how big they are because my desk is already cramped up on.

When i see gear in mint conditon I don't mind paying a premium. It's when there's a bunch of nicks and scratches that bothers me and people still think they can sell it for 3000+ .

well at a grand, isn't it possible to find something a bit more high end when it comes to mixers? I don't mean brand new... I know a few guys around here have some real nice desks... mackies are cool too but I would have figured you could maybe get an 8 channel trident or something you could maybe even expand at around that price...

what are you guy's thought on that... for someone like me who doesn't give a **** about the best sound quality (and because I don't have an SP that needs tracking) I am not in the market really for something like that but it's a curiosity since we're talking about **** expensive samplers here.

That's the reson why i sold the Mackie. It started to become the "weakest" part in my setup. I have a nice phono-pre, shure x97something audiophile stylus, the SP that cost more than the Mackie was new, the 60 which i consider high quality when it comes to audio quality, a Roland JV2080, minitaur, recorded into an appogee duet... and i ran it all through that Mackie Mixer where you can hear more noise the second you switch on the EQ from a channel...

I knew i wanted something better, but my personal limit for spending money on audio gear is 2k at once... only exception that stretched this was the SP1200. So i was just dreaming and didn't seriously consider upgrading, because i thought a worthwile upgrade would cost me 3-5k.

I now own a 32-channel midas venice. It popped up on a local auction site, it came together with the big external power supply and a huge road case. They used it for two shows in two years, it's practically new. Cost me 1600 swiss francs (about 1500 dollars). I think they can be found for even less if you are patient. Nobody wants them anymore, because now they can buy the Behringer version (midas made by behringer) brand spanking new for a little over 2'000 bucks (the midas was close to 7'000 swiss francs when it was new (excluding power supply and case)).

There was a 16 channel and a 24 channel version as well from the venice. Couldn't find any on ebay, but i guess if you'd find a 16 channel version that should be under a thousand bucks nowadays.

I found nobody really wants old analog mixers anymore, you can get really nice stuff for "small" money (unless we are talking top stuff like SSL, Neve, Manley, etc).

I saw a Midas Venice 16-FR for sale for 1100. Is that a good deal?
