Meta you know the answer to this one?
Next question -- this times concerning fading out/in individual instruments. I know I can press record and then Edit/Track and fade out/in a mix to record a manual fading out/in of the individual track, but it seems it keeps resetting to 99 when it loops itself -- how to do this so that it does not reset to 99?

If the
Edit/ Track MIX value is edited during playback, the default track MIX setting will be restored
each time the sequence loops around. To permanently change the default MIX setting for a track:

• Set SEQ REC MODE= ADD on the Edit/ Seq• Song page. This will prevent any unwanted
changes to existing track events.
• Select the Instrument• Sequence Track for which you want to adjust the MIX.
• Press Play, and then press Edit, followed by Track, and adjust the MIX value while listening to
the track until you find the proper level.
• Once you’ve decided on the MIX value, press Stop• Continue.
• While holding down Record, press Play. After the first bar of the sequence has been recorded,
press Stop• Continue.
• The KEEP= OLD/ NEW Audition page will be displayed. You can’t audition the volume
change on the KEEP=OLD/ NEW page. Select KEEP=NEW and press Enter• Yes to keep the
results. Press Play. You will now hear the new default MIX setting, and it will now be
permanently recorded on the track. If you don’t like the new default MIX setting, simply
repeat the above procedure and set a new MIX level.
• It’s a good idea to return to the Edit/ Seq• Song page to set the SEQ REC MODE back to
REPLACE for later sequencing.

@ DRUNK spendy... 2-300 im guessing... if u can find one.

almost better to find a beat up ASR with the SCSI in it and buy that... so you have one with and one without... then resell the board without, or keep it for parts.


@ZORK you've asked that 4 times... what is your reason for wanting to do this...


if you are trying to make a SOUND decay "fade out"... you need to go into EDIT > ENV 3 and cursor right..


If you are trying to make a whole SEQUENCE fade out.... then it will be something I have never needed to do.... but I wouldn't doubt it is in there.

tr every CMD SEQ and EDIT SEQ function.... dig around... like I said... it would be "record mix changes" or something like "record envelope changes".

no swing... no immediate quantize.... less resolution.... less editing features.... more button pressing to get same results...


3000= set quantize and swing value... press rec'd playstart... buy the time your 4 bars loops back, what you tapped is on time.

ASR= record 4 bars of taps... sequencer stops... press command + track... select quantize, select quantize value "16th's", press enter for entire track, press enter for yes, press enter for keep it.

^ for every layer you add that you want on time.


If I could only have one it would be the 3k. best sounding MPC ever.... best workflow... a+

even tho the dude is a tool... he's doing it for a reason.

you can do everything on a 3000, but it still isn't a FULL sampler. NO effects or any of the standard "sampler" functions (well 3 tap Delay)... no real filters (except low pass) and on and on...


but you CAN get the Vallixi OS for the 3k which makes the it the best sequencer in the world.

cheap, full sampler with badass filter vs. rad sequencer with swing
also, in terms of chopping samples and arranging them, which one is more convenient?

Can you elaborate on this swing feature that supposedly ASR-10 doesnt have? If I understand it right it adds some human feel flavor, but correct me if I'm wrong but producers like early Havoc, RZA, Alchemist that used exclusively ASR-10 for both sampling and a sequencing -- just listen to their beats...

Basically your beat notes gonna be arranged along 00-24-48-72 clocks anyway if you quantize to 1/16, so you think there will be a difference in the same beat quantized on ASR-10 and MPC? what's really swing good for?

no problems at all with the 3k. its 100

getting one with a SCSI is a must for either machine.

the sound of the 3k is about as close as any machine ever came to being as nice as the ASR.

the swing that the RZA (et. al.) and others uses is due to where and how they chop their drums... and the fact that they don't usually use quantize anyway...

to each his own...

Kanbla said "i like the asr because you can chop up one sample into 64 parts without using any more memory"...

this is the dope part about the ASR... sample like 10 seconds of drum break... and you can copy just the parameters... and "look at" or "play" any region of the sample depending on how you trim it... (each chop)



one of the defining characteristics of a "Sampler" to me is that it autochromatically assigns the notes across a keyrange right when you sample... Unlike many mpc models where this is left to do manually, or just not at all.

just get the 3k first... easier to learn, more robust, more of a studio master controller, pads, etc etc.... but definitely scoop an ASR in the future... they are cheap as hell right now (thank you maschine, and all other crappy softwares)
