Akai s950 with IB-109 scsi

Akai s950 with IB-109 scsi

Hi, I have a chance to purchase a s950 with the ib-109 scsi interface (which has an optical & digital input along with scsi), but I'd like to know what kind of drive would be compatible with the s950? I have a SCSI zip drive with 25 pin, but the scsi on the s950 is 19 pin, any special connectors to use? I would appreciate any info you can provide. Do you know where I can get a copy of the IB-109 manual, I've searched akai's website but no luck. Thanks

If u hav DA Real SCSI interface, it has a SCSI centronics connector. U can hook it up 2 zip ( weak sauce ) , or a Microtech PCD-25 CF reader.

The digi piece is different. That has a DIGI i/o , but the other connector can only be hook'd up to an Atari HD or some $hit, which u prob don't got.

Do a search, I found this info in about 30 seconds searchin CF + 950

the s950 pictured in the auction IS NOT fitted with the ib-109 SCSI expansion board... it MAY be the ib-105 ATARI HD interface expansion board, of that i am not sure... as DukeNewport said, the SCSI ib-109 interface board for the s950 has a centronics SCSI connector, NOT THE ONE PICTURED IN THE AUCTION... if it is in fact an ib-105 ATARI HD interface, then you will need one of about 3 model ATARI HDs, which are extremely rare at this point...

i actually have a compatible ATARI HD, but will only get rid of it with the complete ATARI computer (1040stF)... i also have an s900 fitted with its own ATARI HD interface (ib-101 i believe) that would pair well with the 1040stF if you could track down the cubase or composer software and the midi interface hardware to get the system hooked up and ready to compose with...


on my ib-109 expansion board, "IB109" is printed in the upper right corner of the faceplate on the back of the unit where the board is installed... if it doesnt have a centronics connector and isnt labeled "IB109" to the upper right of where the connector says "hardrive", the IT ISNT THE ib-109... :wink:

its nice to see someone actually reply after you answer someones inquiries... half the time, you give some requested advice and the thread dies right there... you dont even get to find out what happened or if your input helped sometimes around here... :lol:


but yea, good luck... ib-109s are pretty rare to come by... :)

How much shud the Ib-109 go for anyway? Wut about maxed MEM? I just seen dis on ebay but there was no pic on the back, so i assumed it was the atari board.

Yeah its a very bad pic but the connector use these little "clamps" and if you look how wide the connector is (you can tell it by counting the out plugs) I guess its larger than 5 cm. So this cant be a DSub 19 connector. Its a Centronics.

I got one of these and a TI99(with games) at a thrift store for $40. I got the Atari working with an old version of logic but it's sat on the shelf since. Just curious, what do you want one for?

I've been trying to track down the SCSI interface (IB-109) for some time now and have been trying to persuade MUTEC to produce this (since they produce a variety of other AKAI SCSI interfaces). Understandably, and unfortunately for those of us that want the IB-109, they deem there is not sufficient demand to warrant them producing the interface. However, MUTEC 'listen to there customers' and should the demand arise, they 'may' consider producing the interface... can we rally numbers (I would suspect we would need numbers to be close to thousand :shock: )?!?!

Haha I bet the ebay auction will end up with no buyer.

What about starting a kind of "collection of signatures" for MUTEC? I'm with it. Since the floppy drives and disks will die the next years there really is a need for the SCSI interface.
