Would you guys call these drums solid... timing-wise....
Cos I'm not too convinced so far. Love the ASR sound, but the only time I like the timing on the drums is when using the internal seq.... but I can't work like that.

Using os161 on the ASR, as the midi timing seemed tighter than on 353... still not happy though.

Midi timing test, MPC4000 -> ASR10 (multi mode)

How were the drums programmed in the 4000, they sound a bit straight to my ears. And personally I wouldn't consider using the ASR10 sequencer regardless of which OS it runs if there is an MPC in the country...

Yea the patterns where all done in the 4k. as it was just another test I kept the patterns straight... although I think I used the shift feature on the asr kick and hh tracks.

The snare is from the 4k, the verb clap from the asr... wanted to layer some drums hits to see how solid the timing is...
There is also a non panned quiet hh from the mp...
Other than that, main panned hihats , kick, clap, loop... from the asr.

And I feel the same about not using the asr seq, although its nice, it's not up to the job of midi production center.

Via midi I've triggered alot of akai racks and the sp12 for drum duties.. never questioned how tight the timing was in those scenarios...
But with the asr and to a lesser extent the eps16 .... I feel it's a bit hairy.. Which is a annoying cos I think they sound really great on drums, and about everything else.

Also a friend of mine asked an mpc head about this. he said he uses an mpc3k and an asr /w 353os ... and has no problems... and that the mp3k is tighter when triggering external midi gear... than the 4k... That's got me wondering now too.

i think it sounds fine, but the pattern itself was kinda tripping me up, maybe if you did a more strait boom boom chuck i could judge it better, but honestly i dont really think you have to.
just keep doin what your doin.
