Cleaning Faders on SP1200

I had my SP1200 refurbished about 2 years ago by a guy in Coventry (UK). It came back working perfectly and all the pads were working properly but the faders were scratchy.

I was using my SP1200 today and the faders are very stiff now. It's really depressing watching my baby get ill like that.

Any ideas on how to ease them up a bit?

how good are your de-/soldering and fine motor skills?
You can clean it with contact spray only but I wouldn't recommend that if you're able to really get the dirt out of the faders by desoldering and open them up. This way you can clean it AND put A LIL BIT lubricant on the moving part (but not on the contacts!).
Another solution would be a replacement of the faders :
AFAIK they are 10k linear. I don't know the dimensions but I guess you will find some more info on the sp1200 forum

yea. faders are only $4.50 each. soldering/desoldering is the fun part.

mine arent the smoothest or loosest faders, but a qtip and a toothbrush worked wonders for me... got loads of dust bunny buildup out of them... you can get deeper/better access to cleaning the faders in this manner by removing the top faceplate section...

Yeah thats where i bought mine from. i have the og grey sp fom 87 ist issue and the faders when i first got it were filthy. probably the original joints . couldnt truncate or set loop points cus the numbers were flickering all over the place. soldered in the new ones and its been smmoth ever since

I usually try blowing compressed air in first, on scratchy sliders/pots etc...
Like the pots used on some akai racks have a hole in them, it opens up when you turn them fully anticlockwise.... blowing air in fixed the scratchy--tude....
Best to try the easy fix first, then look at refurbishing them or buying a new part.
....In the case of some synth gear there are modern cloned sliders avail....but they don't always feel as good as the originals.....in those cases refurb is the best way to go.
