Hey there,
Is that the cable that appears to be inside a clear rubber tube? The other end of that cable should be soldered to the backlight (which is a brown/pink panel that slides into the right hand side of the display, illuminating the display so you can read it in poor lighting).
Those cables do come away easily on the original factory backlights. It may or may not be easily repairable, they usually break off right next to the backlight itself, which makes it tough to repair. I do sell replacement backlights though, and they don't require any soldering to fit.
You should be aware that the bare ends of that cable put out a fairly high voltage of 150 volts AC when the backlight on/off switch (on the contrast knob) is switched on. So I would advise against powering on the sampler until you get it fixed.
In the meantime you could do this:
Unplug the connector end of that cable from the S3000 main board
Power on the S3000 and listen for a high pitched buzz/whine noise coming from the mainboard
If you hear that noise, push in the contrast knob, firmly, until you feel it click
The noise should disappear. This cuts power to the backlight. Keep the switch off like this until you fix things.
Your display will have no illumination in the meantime, but you can still use the sampler. Just leave that backlight switch alone until things are fixed.
