Must we say goodbye to stand alone units?

It seems like sequencers are swaying away from being stand alone and becoming controllers. I was listening to a record through my Ren and the quality was super distorted. After restarting my computer I realized it was a hardware/software issue! I was infuriated to the point where I decided to look for old MPC units (like my dearly missed 1000). Unfortunately, all of the older versions can only be acquired used, or if you can get them new they're incredibly overpriced. Will MPC develop another stand alone unit that's worth getting? I don't want a 3000, and I don't want a used unit. The thought of purchasing something that someone else beat up turns my stomach. Kind of like dating a girl after you know your friend has been with her. Will it be all software from here on out????!!!!!!

(with faulty pads) and here you got upgraded pads installled (around 200$), 128mb memory.. + some extras, some warranty. There's one for under 700. I think it's better to buy refurbished from here than buy anywhere else and being forced to send it for repair from day 1.

Don't believe the brain damaged cocksuckers that its an all software world now. Because hardware is steady climbing in demand. Thank Akai for their beta product that hardware will make a comeback.

Look how powerful phones are these days, dual-core, quad-core, lots of RAM. I think what we are going to see is units that have an embedded computer with their application starting up when the OS starts. It will probably have a monitor port for when you need to hook it up for updates/maintenance.

I think that's really how we will head back to stand alone units, something that runs on a normal OS on an embedded computer.

Yup, thats where Akai should've taken it with the Ren. That truly would of been a renaissance.

Not sure if the inMusic Akai will ever make a standalone again, but no doubt plenty of other manufacturers will, and I'm sure they will be successful if they get the formula right.

TBH it's time for a fresh set of eyes and brains in this game, companies that will truly innovate.

I concur. I was referring to Akai's vision btw - I don't believe they are thinking hardware anymore. Would be nice though.

I think that the standalone hardware sampling drum machine is dead, and I don't think it's coming back. It's a shame, because with all of the technology available, some company could construct something truly powerful and innovative. The question is, is there REALLY still a market for it when soo many producers, beat makers, and dj's like to work "inside the box"?????

No matter what company makes new hardware sampler. Im interested only if there is 4×4 pads.
