Hi all,
just got this unit from someone who hadn't turned it on in like 15 years.
It powers up and the 7 segment display comes on but instead of displaying 0 it looks like random segments of it are lit (different every time I power the unit up). The unit in general seems "drunk" with buttons like Record that respond but don't stay lit, or the disk drive sometimes spinning sometimes not...
I found a copy of the service manual online here: part1 and part2
First thing I checked was the power supply PCB, and in appearance, it looks like everything is ok; no bulging caps or burnt resitors.
Secondly I checked the voltages on the PSU pcb and they seem to be way off from what they're supposed to be... I assume that since the voltages are wrong at PSU level the problem must be (or at least originate) there (correct?
)
Could the caps have failed even if they don't show it? Any other suggestion as to what I should check next?
Thanks!
