I'm trying to get the attention of Native Instruments Maschine software developers so they will finally implement (in my opinion) a crucial editing feature.

Programming intricate, fast rhythms similar to the music of Aphex Twin or Squarepusher is currently near impossible in Maschine unless the user resorts to the mouse. Real-time recording and step recording do not allow for micro-event entry or editing. A very simple way to offer micro-event recording is to model it after Akai MPC 2000xl or Alesis SR-16 step editing modes.
It seems very logical that the user should be able to:
1. Set up a pattern with desired number of beats/measures. Set Grid quantization to desired resolution.
2. Hit "RECORD" from hardware controller (but not PLAY) to arm the event entry. "RECORD" button is illuminated.
3. Use the "LEFT / RIGHT" transport cursor buttons, or the "Master Jogwheel" to scroll to the desired position of the pattern.
4. Hit desired pads to enter events where the cursor is located.
5. Use parameter knobs to edit events for velocity, pan, pitch, gate, position, filter, etc.
6. When finished, simply unarm event entry mode but hitting "RECORD" again.
Here is a brief video example of this method applied on an Akai MPC 2000xl.
Alternatively, here is a similar method applied on an Alesis SR-16 drum machine. The first 7 minutes apply.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, please let me know. I'd really like to see this happen in Maschine 2.2 since it would be very easy to implement.
My first drum machine was the Alesis SR-16 and I used the step entry mode more than anything else. Nothing was better than programming glitchy, granular hihat and snare rolls in 64th note triplets, unwinding down to 8th notes!
