Upgrading Roland MV-8000

Hi all,

I am currently using a Roland MV-8000 for my sampling/beat making. I originally bought it from a pawn shop and it worked fine for about a year, but has recently been acting up. I'm looking to upgrade and wanted to get something from Akai. I was set on buying the mpc5000 but read a bad review that changed my mind. I'm willing to spend $1,000-$1,500. If you all could give me some ideas and inputs on an upgrade, it would be greatly appreciated...

How long have you had your MV? Does your MV8000 have the mouse and video output card? Using the mouse and video card opens up more options to make music than just using the tiny green screen on the unit.

True, true, but it's not a deal breaker tho, I have had mine for years, never had the VGA or mvo1, but I'm finally ready to make a transition to either a renny or a native studio, just haven't decided yet, it's a pain in the a** to keep up the maintenece for my 1000 & mv

Bought it used and I've had it for a year or longer. I use the mouse and VGA feature and it's pretty nice, but the machine has been glitching and freezing up randomly and changing tempos and closing the sampling screen while I'm sampling something. Thinking about getting the Renaissance or 5000

Do you have the most recent OS version (3.54)? Do you have the max 512mb of RAM installed?

It's a really, really dope machine, lots of good idea's, I wonder if roland is even thinking about a follow up

You should wait until summer Namm to see if Akai releases 1.7 update. In the meantime you can demo Maschine 2.0 and Akai 1.6 software from their respective sites .

Hard to get a good feel for either of them without having the controller in the equation.

If you do go that route and you think you like one definitely try to spend some time with the controller as well before making a purchase.

Sounds like a maintenance issue. Open her up and clean it thorough with deoxit. Might also wanna to reintialize and reinstall the latest OS which is 3.54

If you still like the work flow, get the mv8800 and upgrade the memory. Those Roland's we're slept on, wish they made something similar to,the REN.

Co-sign on that one, still waiting on getting my desk, so my 1000, reason 7, interface and other goodies are just sitting. I'm straight old school right now, Mv8000, turntable, stack of records....
