Hey guys, Im having a really frustrating time getting something to work. I have a Korg Padkontrol that I was going to use to send midi notes to maschine while I was at my keyboard. The Keyboard triggers sounds just fine, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the trigger pad to trigger notes consistently. After a restart it might work for a little while, so I know I've got it hooked up right, but then it just drops.

If I set the midi in on the sound I'm working to to ALL, the keyboard and maschine pads work. When I set it to Kronos, the keyboard works just fine. When I set it to Padkontrol, I get nothing.

I should also mention that if it's on ALL or PadKontrol or any other setting where it should recieve midi information from the Padkontrol, that when I hit a pad on the pad control, the right pad on the maschine lights up like it's being triggered. In fact, from what I can tell, it IS being triggered, the sound just isn't playing.

What do I do about this?

I recently read something about the padKontrol needing the 9v power supply in order to control devices from the 5 pin DIN MIDI out connector. The USB cable only powers the unit and sends MIDI through USB. It's an odd design. But when I read about it and plugged a 9v adaptor, I was finally able to use it with my hardware. You still have to assign the note number and the MIDI channel per pad.

It seems common for USB-MIDI controllers to work like that, when connected to a computer via USB, the 5 pin DIN MIDI ports operate as a MIDI interface for the computer, and you need to power it from an external power supply for the controller to send MIDI directly out of the 5 pin DIN MIDI ports instead.
