I don't understand the hate this is getting.
It is missing a battery, something that if you are going stand alone - you should have.
There is no place to install a hdd - not a big deal as memory sticks and cards are a thing.
It doesn't have touchscreen, but so few people use the touchscreen unless they absolutely have to on the MPCs, that it doesn't seem like it means anything.
So those are the obvious detractors when compared to say the Live.
No speakers, few people care about that.
No CV, not the intended crowd.
so that's comparing it to the newer Live 2.
Then look the other way. It has real and some powerful at that - plug-ins - in the box. I enjoy Hype as much as the next person, but Massive? And if they are putting Massive on there, what's to stop them from getting other synths and plug-ins from Komplete on there? When I think MPCs, I think sampling, when I think NI/Maschine, I think about using their suite of plugins...and sampling (too bad Noir will never come, that is too hard for the processor to handle, my i7 chokes on it sometimes).
It doesn't have a battery or hdd location, but its form factor reminds me of the MPC Studio with an angle, so taking it with you will be a lot easier, both in dimension and weight, than say the Live or Live 2.
4GBs of RAM is nothing to sneeze at, especially compared to what we have with the Live/X/2.
It comes with more storage as well.
And then there is the price. A NEW Live 2 is $1200, this is $1400, so you are paying $200 more - for arguably more features and better hardware. But, there is another difference that "I" am going to fess up to - NI has MASSIVE sales at least once a year. I don't recall Akai doing anything other than tossing us some expansion packs at 50%. NI will give you like $400-$500 of software for FREE with the purchase of the hardware. So if you don't rush into it, you could get a REAL nice come up next June/July.
I'm not saying its perfect, heck I'm not even chasing it down, but its gotten lots of venom thrown its way.
